Has anyone done the LPN to RN back to back??

I graduated in June from LPN school and plan on going back to RN school hopefully in the fall. I am doind prereqs right now and there is a school in my area that has not waiting for lpn-rn bridge. I would recomend it if you can do it at least this was I can work as a Lpn while in RN school and be making better money than if I stayed at my previous job.

I graduated from an LVN program in July 2005 and started the LVN-RN transition program in Jan 2006 - I will be done in May 2007. I think in my area (North Texas) that is probably the quickest.

Be advised that some LPN-to-RN programs require 1,000 hours of LPN work experience before they permit you to enroll. Ask your advisor if the work experience is a requirement.

I think I'm doing it back to back I finished my LPN the end of April and start school Sept. 5. I would of started sooner but thats just when the program starts. I felt I could get some good clinical experience working as an LPN and make more money while I went to school for my RN. In a way I wish I just went right in for my RN but lots of instructors told me the LPN's don't struggle as much in the RN program so that gives me hope. Plus if for some reason I can't continue going to school and have to stop for awhile I am already an NURSE :nuke:. Good Luck.

My program is actually set up back to back. Our 1st year is the LPN program. After we graduate with our diploma in practical nursing, we have a 2 week break and then start right into the 2nd year ADN classes. For those who don't wish to become RN's, they exit the program. For those who are already licensed as LPN's from a previous year can enter the ADN program at that time.

So, ya I'm doing LPN to RN back to back.

I graduated the LPN program in December, just took the LPN-RN transition course a few weeks ago, and will start the second year ADN program in a month. I really don't know what to expect. But, if it's supposed to be it will be. Good luck to you!

Thanks so much for all your help :) It is really nice to hear how other programs do it. I decided to go forward with the LPN instead of fighting to get into the RN this fall. I am hoping by doing it this way it will be a smoother transition when I do the RN program later.

I'm doing this now, graduate in May '07. I think it has helped a little, the RN courses seem to flow easier, now that I've got the LPN under my belt. I think you'll find the RN to be more informative, after you know the nursing basics, you can free your mind to concentrate on specifics.

Man i just finished up 3rd semester of the RN program. I am an LVN with 4months more of school left. It is really tough... it will be a very good idea to work as an LVN gain experience and not forget the theory portion of LVN school because it will help you in the RN program! start buying nclex-RN practice books and go over patho to prepare for RN program because a lot of classmates that were LVNs failed the RN program because they felt that they knew it all... good luck!

Hello *lisa*,

I just graduated from the LPN program in Michigan this past June. My school

makes it mandatory to take the LPN program first and if you pass and have all your pre-req's in they let you progress into the RN program.

Now, next fall (2007) is a long way away. Remember that 1/5 of these LPN students will drop out, fail out, and a large list of other possibilities that they leave the program, opening seats for you.

In regards to your original question, I am currently taking 4 pre-req's for my RN program so I can Start this winter. As another member has mentioned that NCLEX-PN book will help you with OB, Med-Surge, PEDS, Pharm and Mental health. This is my first day on this site so I don't know if I can mention the cartoon pharm cards by name here,,,, But they will help you remember your meds. I think there are made by MOSBY and may be called memory cards. They have special tricks for remembering the drug classes. Most popular meds, etc.

In closing if you buy books to help you, stay within your scope of practice. If your in the LPN program, an RN book may have teatments and proceedures that you as an LPN can not do. Be careful.
