Had a transvaginal exam, and I'm depressed.

I've been having some flank pain for a month or so, and I went in for an ultrasound. The technician was kind of gruff at first. Then as she was looking at the screen she asked me when I had my last period, and I noticed her mood change as she finished the procedure and she started treating me really nice and talking to me like you talk to someone you feel really sorry for...

I know she saw something on that screen that didn't look good. Of course, she "couldn't" tell me anything, but then again, she didn't have to.

I don't even feel like doing anything now.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for the doctor's office to get the report?

Please let us know. Now Im worried for you too. It may be nothing though...hopefully.

I'm sorry that you are having to wait so long on your results. I can understand why you are worried and nervous. I hope your test results come back okay. I will keep you in my thoughts. :icon_hug:

Sending good thoughts and prayers your way in hopes that everything will be just fine. Try not to panic. I hope you hear from your doc very soon. I'm sure the waiting is torture. Hugs.

As a person who has gotten bad news, the tech would have summoned the doctor. The doctor would have been there to do a further examination. It has happened each time with out fail. I hope you are reading way more into this.

Go easy on yourself - there could be several reasons for her change in "tone": She may have learned that you're also a healthcare provider and realized that she better get her act together and be a little more professional - or she may have realized that she WAS being a little short and decided to improve her bedside manner. In either case, a technician (while experienced) is NOT the one paid to read the results and has limited training in that respect. Definitely call the provider who ordered the scan and stress the fact that waiting for the result is causing you anxiety. Any women's healthcare provider worth their salt will be sensitive to this and get back to you sooner rather than later. Take care of yourself...:redpinkhe

hope everything turns out ok, golyte.

i had a trans. vag u/s about a year or so ago and got super freaked out when the tech went and got another tech and then they start pointing at the screen and was like "omg we have to show this to the radiologist"

and i was like what?? do i have cancer or something?? and they were all like "oh no, it's ok, your doctor should call you within a week with the results". and i was pooping in my pants because they were all evasive about it.

the radiologist got back with me in about 3 days... i had a freakin little bitty ovarian cyst. you bet your tail i complained.

I have a best friend who is an ultrasoundgrapher. She tells me that anytime anything abnormal is seen the tech will send the films (it only takes seconds) and then excuse herself briefly from the room while the radiologist looks at the scan to see if any further photo's are needed.

She agrees that this tech was probably stressed over something and once sitting down and starting to scan you that she calmed down and changed her demeanor. She also said that the scans are read within the hour. They are told to tell the patients 24 hours but in reality it's an hour.

Always makes it worse (at least for me) that it's translady partsl - you just want to scream, "Get this dang thing out of my freaking uterus already!" I know it's not way up there, but I think you understand what I mean :wink2:. Especially since my last one was done by a student - not comfy!

Anyhow, as someone who has also received bad news from this exam, I found out from my doc a few hours after the test and was scheduled for surgery 2 days later (all was happily benign!).

Surely, if something's urgently wrong they'll contact you ASAP. Will be sending good thoughts your way!

The NP had told me if I didn't hear anything back from her consider that good news. Thing is, she didn't give me any kind of a time frame to go by. My next appointment is December 29.

It's somewhat of a relief to know the results are read pretty quickly and if the sonographer sees anything she will step out of the room. Funny, when I was in the waiting room I had a big cup of water (I was the first one). I had been told to drink 64 oz of water by the doctor, but when the tech walked in and saw my cup she barked out, what are you drinking???

"Water. I've been drinking ever since I got up this morning. And I had a coke, too."

She threw my papers down on the receptionists desk and yelled, SHE HAD A COKE!!!

I wasn't in the mood to start stammering apologetically, so I just said no one told me not to drink a coke. The secretary told the tech, this isn't the abdominal, it's the pelvic.

Then the tech was like, oh okay.

I didn't know the difference. I was just glad I didn't have to postpone anything.

I already told my husband things didn't look good, and he's been making an effort to be really nice to me since then. I hate for that to end...

Maybe the tech is just a psyche case and her morning meds suddenly kicked in? ;)

If there is something wrong, they will send the result right away and you will be contacted, other wise it is within 24hours.

I hope the best for you and totally understand your dilemma.
