Gum Chewing

What's everyone's opinions on chewing gum while on the job?

Just curious because I love to chew gum but I feel as though no one in my hospital does it. :eek:

There have been a few times when my husband has rightly sensed that I was about to "lose it" over something and he has nicely guided me away from the situation.

Usually I'm a pretty peaceful person.

I do the same. My husband can tell just from the look in my eyes, or even less, and he's the level headed one of the couple. He also guides me away before I lose it. I was always pretty calm, but some things just set me off.

Now that's something the douche products' manufacturers could possibly invent - peppermint smelling farts! :sniff:

now that reminds me of daddy's farts and old spice.

I wonder if putting a dryer sheet in your underwear makes your gas smell "spring fresh"?

I chew gum at work because of the many reasons that other posters have mentioned. It keeps me focused and away from most stressors that would usually leave me bug-eyed.

It seems like nursing has a lot of restraints that we place upon ourselves. We can't eat, pee, breathe near doctors, chew gum, take a 2 minute break, or anything else for that matter because we're so focused on providing care to everyone else except for ourselves. The last thing I'll have someone take from me is what I chew on an occasional basis!

Learn to live, people. And if you're scared someone's gonna catch you, just swallow and it'll be nestled in your tummy for 7+ years. Sweet victory for everyone, no pun intended.

or breath mints that actually work on mini-wiener dogs . ... .their breath is simply awful. :uhoh3:

i've gotten them those green biscuits . .. . nope. still stinks. :eek:

old mother hubbard brand makes gimme a kiss biscuits we order from petfooddirect.com.the gimme a kiss biscuits contain spearmint, parsley, apples, carrots, oatmeal and some other things i'm forgetting.

we also buy 20 or 25# boxes of their assorted flavor biscuits and share with 4 other neighbors. we rotate who buys so it's only our turn about twice a year or not quite. all mother hubbard buscuits are all natural. the assorted come in more sizes than most other flavors. petfooddirect,com runs frequent sales and once you've ordered from them one time, you'll receive sale notices often.

I guess I am old school, but I think gum chewing at work is very unprofessional and looks trashy. The absolute worst is the open mouthed smacking. No gum at work! And I'm too old to change my mind on this one.

I am wondering how many nurses adamantly opposed to gum chewing went to parochial schools and were punished for the act?
