What's everyone's opinions on chewing gum while on the job?
Just curious because I love to chew gum but I feel as though no one in my hospital does it.
If breath stinks, find the cause. Floss your teeth and pratice better oral hygeine. Go to a dentist if there is a real problem.

Wow, how insulting. My breath feels like it stinks during the day because I'm now taking a med that leaves my mouth dry. I've got pretty good oral hygiene, considering I've only had one cavity in my lifetime that the dentist thinks was caused by my teeth grinding, and my dentist and hygienist are always amazed at how great my teeth are, especially since I grind them. I brush my tongue with every brushing and have no problems lower down my GI tract that would cause it. But my mouth gets dry no matter how much I drink during the day, so gum a few times a day helps. Perhaps instead of judging us gum chewers you should make sure you aren't doing anything that might be a pet peeve to us, like ASSuming we have poor oral hygiene.
I never got whacked with a ruler, but I had long hair so I had my hair pulled a couple of times. In eighth grade one of the more obnoxious boys got locked in the supply closet by the Library studies nun for the whole class. Being that this kid was kind of a bully and a PITA, none of us said anything.:lol2:And we didn't go home and whine to our parents that we got in trouble, because we'd get it again from them.
I think I did OK in NS because of my Catholic school background though..I was used to wearing a uniform and I worked well under fear. Pretty much my gum chewing and my sloppy handwriting were the only things that didn't fit in with the Catholic school brainwashing.:)

I was just raised that way, raised not to smack gum or chew it when talking to people, or in professional situations.
