Does anyone know what would cause a stool to be green and 'fuzzy' looking, kind of like algae? The patient hasn't started any new meds, has no s/s of any GI disorder, not taking iron supplements. She said it just started and I had no answers as to why this would be.
Any ideas?
I remember when my son was a toddler, occasionally, he would pass stool that looked like pistascio green colored ice cream. The first time it happened was at a birthday party, and we didn't know who the culprit was, but we all stared at it. A few days later, he did it again at home and I flipped out. Took him to the doctor immediately, some stool was collected, no problem discovered and since then, it had been regular dirty brown.
I often wondered what this actually meant, years later, and that is what made me come to read the responses on this thread.

When both of my kids were toddlers, an upset stomach would turn their stool 'grass' green. Doc said not to worry, so i didn't.
