Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Good luck with the surgery! ((hugs))

Thanks! I am SO nervous!

Hi all, I am new to this thread and read the most recent 10 pages to get a feel for things. I'm guessing clc's are group projects? I'm starting the program in September and trying to get a feel on feedback if what to expect and so far it's been very informative.

I did go out 1 night with some friends to celebrate. But it hasn't been bad at work at all. I have a primary so I am always with her when I am at work and the assignment she is in is easy so there isn't any reason I can't work a little extra.

I doubled up on Leadership and Trends. You can definitely double those 2 up. They weren't fun by any means, but it isn't too crazy where you can't do them both.

Ok everybody. Now that I feel a 100% better. I really need your help for the following.

I was reading here that the you can request for certain instructors for certain classes. Did I understand that correctly? How do you go about doing that and whom do you recommend for what class? I am going to repeat my community and public health class. How do I go about not getting the same instructor not just in that class but any other class?

This had pained my moral to the point that I get anxious going to the class forum. Every time we post a it felt like the inst. responses were a bit on the sarcasm side. (IDK, maybe it was me). I don't ever want to come to feeling this way if I can do something about it.

I am so glad that I came back to the allnurses forum. I really thought I was going crazy. :crying2: But after reading your encouraging posts and advice I am going to keep in touch and just do things differently and not overload me. That I can take breaks in between classes.

Thank you all. I believe my next class is [COLOR=#444444]Applied Stats. Can someone please help me as to what to expect from this?...Blah!!! Sorry to have just dump myself like this. But I have a feeling we have all been in these types of situations.

Thanks again everybody.

Stats, can be best advised by Prism who went through the current class. They changed it since I took it. It is doable though, even though it isn't a fun class.

The stats book itself is really only a work book. I had a multitude of books to help me and I started reading up on stats months ahead (paranoia of failure works well for me ) to become familiar with the lingo. I Googled... a lot for different ways of explaining things, and also has stats for dummies, idiots and healthcare professionals, lol. If I couldn't find an answer, my husband helped me, since he is more of a math/left brained person.

(Sorry, my quote feature appears to not be working)

You: I am going to repeat my community and public health class. How do I go about not getting the same instructor not just in that class but any other class?

Me: Make friends with your advisor  All you have to do is call them up and say "do NOT put me in so & so's class", and they will search around for you while you're on the phone and put you in somewhere else that has an opening.

You: Every time we post a it felt like the inst. responses were a bit on the sarcasm side. (IDK, maybe it was me).

Me: That's just rude, I'm sorry you felt that way. Luckily I've not ever had a meanie. Had some tough graders though!

You: Thank you all. I believe my next class is Applied Stats. Can someone please help me as to what to expect from this?...Blah!!!

Me: I may not be the person to ask, since I kind of went overboard (I actually subscribed to an online lecture series where the instructor was right there, had a whiteboard, etc). I will definitely suggest one thing though, do prepare a bit ahead if you can, like tokmom said, to at least get familiar with the lingo, and pick something that is healthcare related. Unfortunately no one has written "Stats for Nimrods" yet, so I had to keep searching. I found this book on Google Books and I loved it (you can read most of it online). For some reason this guy writes in a way I could understand and not feel like my head is going to pop off.

Good Luck!!!

Thank you so much for the info JRich! You just saved me 5 weeks. :)

I just finished Statistics with 100% and I am NOT a Stats person in the least. I signed up for online tutoring twice a week - one to go over the spreadsheet, one to go over the workbook assignment. I also watched the youtube videos by tina9msu that walk you through each spreadsheet. If I can do it, anyone can! I actually thought Statistics was the easiest course so far - NO PAPERS!!!

Um, you're voted off the island too. There ya go NurseConnie, everyone is different! Congrats Noodles, I think that's the first time I've heard that for SURE. Wow!

Yep, voted off the island Noodles! :)

True, no papers, but I think I spent as much time on those *$%(#$ worksheets than I did a paper. Ok...not so much, but close...very close.

It seems that Tina has her youtube vids more public. Pandora and I had another instructor and that person helped more with the Excel piece than Tina did. She left me sort of lost. JMO, though.

I credit 90% of my success in Statistics to the awesome online tutors. They saved my behind! Use them. They are FREE. You just have to make sure you sign up early. Time slots fill up quickly.
