Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
In my first week of Intro to Research. Four more classes after that. One thing that is driving me 'round the bend is all the plagiarism that I see - every week, every class, since I started last year. I've had it. I'm reporting every single instance I see to my instructor, and I've sent copies to the Academic Counsel as well, my advisers too. So, if you happen to be in Intro to Research with me (Todd C.), and you're copying and pasting stuff straight from sources (cited or otherwise), and I notice, I will be turning it over.
If you're writing your own content, well then good on you :)

Hey Solitaire, the plagiarism is frustrating. I saw it happen in some of my classes too. I'm thinking the people that post here are pretty trustworthy though.
Do you ever hear back from the school?

I have had a horrible experience with some copying my original thoughts. I don't have a problem with some one quoting a credible source and then adding their thought or personal experience. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying on this last bit?
Thank You for that information. I start week 2 of Spirituality tomorrow and that is the assignment to do a personhood whatever. I have not heard of that term before so how will you get it online?Personhood grid.... I am in Spirituality right now, its a fairly easy assignment. Some of the personhood variables are not in the assigned text, nor in the course material. So, the personhood variables have to be found online. One thing to remember is that some of the spirituality assignments build upon one another. I ended up using the personhood grid on the paper due for that week. Overall, this assignment is pretty easy, but you have to think outside of the box.

I'm saying that I've caught people copying and pasting straight from an article, without quoting it, without citing it, as if they wrote it themselves - and citing a completely different article. It is outright plagiarism. Yes, I've gone through the trouble of Google-searching their paragraphs, because it is obviously not their writing, and I have turned them in to the instructor and the school. Haven't heard back from either, in this class, but I have from other classes.

I realize it is an issue....but if I was going to report people (which I do not) I would not be posting on a forum..and giving my name that I was doing that......as those people tend to get vengeance....You may make a mistake...and guess who is going to be there to catch it.....some things are best not being posted on the internet.........
What did they say? Probably something like they are going to look into it?
Flames, maybe those tempting to cheat will see the person's name and think twice.

Why would they?? Its online....not as if ur going to an actual class with them!
No, not an actual class, but someone is still pointing fingers at your work and turning you in.

Sorry NurseConnie33, I too am paying as I go, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with student loans or not. I did get one LOA, and then got burned out after Stats and took my own hiatus, lol. I came back without any problem after paying my money. My best advice, get back on your horse and get 'er done, and be a 'lope. Truly, it is all downhill after Research, the classes literally fly, as soon as I start one it seems as though it is over. I wish you well!
