Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I'm saying that I've caught people copying and pasting straight from an article, without quoting it, without citing it, as if they wrote it themselves - and citing a completely different article. It is outright plagiarism. Yes, I've gone through the trouble of Google-searching their paragraphs, because it is obviously not their writing, and I have turned them in to the instructor and the school. Haven't heard back from either, in this class, but I have from other classes.

Ok now I follow and I too have seen this over and over. If it makes you feel better/worse all schools see this the local university instructor who is now a CM says it is in every school. When I was in stats a girl took my original thought and copied and pasted it as her post. I was reading it and went hey that sounds like what I posted I put them side by side!!!! I was as mad as I have ever been in a super long time! I did turn her in and again and again....she showed up in my Spirit class, guess who got to grade my paper? At least she was familiar with my work!!!!

No way! She graded your work? Shows you that nothing happens to those that cheat.

Plagiarism and copying has been around as long as people had eyeballs to look at others work. Some things will never change.

I am starting my second class Family centered health. How long should my DQ answer be? (word count?) I ask because, I thought I would get ahead for my 1st DQ, was ready to post today and the 1st post was like 450 words... Rethinking my paltry answer, did I miss something? Sorry, rambling...

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome!

My DQ answers were at least 3 or 4 well written paragraphs with a citation and everybody else was posting these measly 4 sentence responses with no citation! My responses to other people's posts were thoughtful and of course substantive (haha). I also pose a question to the person I am responding to so it keeps the discussion going.

Well, then our instructor posts that people are not being substantive enough and to look at the posts that she gave the little ribbon symbols to and lo and behold people started copying the style of my posts and my DQ answers! Kind of a compliment to me but frustrating because I feel like I busted my butt and now when I read other people's posts and answers, I am reading work similar to mine. Oh well....

Only one week into this program and I am so over it! Plus, it is a lot of work. I have always been a good student but I question whether I can keep this up with so many papers and the dreaded group projects.

How do you guys stay motivated?

How do you guys stay motivated?

Coffee, Zantac, being able to check off "another one bites the dust" after only 5 weeks (those 5 weeks would have gone by anyway...), and, of course, our AN buddies who are in the same flailing rowboat out on the rough seas. Did I mention coffee and Zantac?

Every single instructor is different on this, so you must must must go through their announcements first thing. Somewhere in there they should tell you what they personally expect to earn a substantive grade for a DQ (and the replies to other students).

I've had some that one-liners are okay (shocker, but true), others want a zillion words with every little thing cited/referenced, others that don't want any references but instead your personal experiences that somehow relate to the subject, and then one in particular that literally stated she wanted between 250-300 words - no more, no less. I got marked down on those, I thought "more is better, I'm going to tell you everything I know about this and show you that I really invested my time in learning my assignment". Um, backfired, got 1/2 credit for going over word count.

So, read read read those Instructor Announcements! :)

Welcome to the bunch, ro! What motivates me is keeping my eye on the prize at the end of this journey. I have waited a long time to return to school and so it's now or never for me! I am finishing up class #5 and I will soon be over the hump so I just keep my nose to the grind stone and can't wait to be done. I haven't experienced burn out yet and am enjoying this process so far! There will always be those "few" that test your patience in every class, but I just try to get through it and not let them get under my skin. Hopefully you will enjoy the classes and keep your eye on the prize too!
