Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

How do you guys handle CLCs if you think a members work isn't adequate?

Maybe I'm super picky but I felt like the work given to me to add into the powerpoint was SO sub par. Just word for word stuff (but with spelling errors?) from a google search not even answering the prompt.

This was my second CLC and it was a total mess. Crossing my fingers for the next one.

Maybe I just need to let my opinions about the work go and just copy/paste as that is what I signed up for, not hours of searching for the source because the reference wasn't APA, rewriting, and formatting the text.

I mentally have a trap door for the slackers that drops them into the flames of hell.

In the real world. Pandora and I have always taken control of the editing. I know...I know...it isn't fair to the editors to have to fix crappy work that others did, but I'm not going to lose my grade point.

What we have done is point out their errors. Not the simple typos or minor APA formatting. Heck, we have all done that so we quietly fixed those.

What we did put back into their lap was the lack for citation and broken link crap. **That** does not fly. We would tell them they needed to quickly fix this so we could submit and they needed to cite appropriately. There were times, they still didn't get it, so we would google some of the words in their paper or slides and try to figure out where they found the information.

I don't think there was one project we did not edit, was there Pandora?

This is a plus of going through the program with a friend. Pandora and I met here on AN an decided to team up. The only CLC we did not have together were two of them because they were previously assigned before we asked. It was nice having us together, because we had each others back and it helped to take off some pressure.

I do have to give credit to Pandora for her wonderful editing. That woman is a machine!

So you have two options. Take over the editing and 'drive the train' on your project that will cause you extra work, or two, sit back and pray you don't get docked too much. Some instructors say they grade per section, but I never wanted to take that chance. Sadly, it meant some slackers getting a free ride.

That's funny, I had a similar anxiety attack when I submitted my first paper in my first class. I clicked "submit" to TII, and waited...and waited...and waited... 45 minutes went by and I started to freak so I called the IT people and asked if the site was down or what the hay was going on because my paper was due and I was just staring at this "Report Awaited" thing! He said, "did you refresh your screen?" AAUUGHHHH!!!!

Hahah yeah I looked at the screen for a good 15-20 minutes before the thought occurred to me that I should refresh the screen or close out and try logging back in. :roflmao:

Ya think they should pass that tidbit of information onto us non-techy people? :grumpy:

That made me think of a cartoon, lol. It shows a cobwebbed skeleton sitting in a chair in front of their laptop and being found days later by two other GCU students, who say....

(Caption) I guess he never thought to refresh the browser :roflmao:

Aimeedarling, I agree with tokmom, with my 4-cents added in (of course lol). This is why the due-date for submissions to the proofer/editor should be the Thursday BEFORE the thing is due. This gives the edit/proof person(s) time to look at it, see if it’s junk, and send it back. I had someone turn in garbage and I posted in the color forum “please review, we need in-text citations in your speaker notes, and the references added to the reference slide, plz update by tomorrow”, and when it was returned the 2nd time (still junk), I wrote in there “please let me know if this is your final submission because it doesn’t meet the rubric, and the rest of the team will need to divide up your portion so it can be submitted on time”. I even went so far as to copy/paste the corresponding pieces of the rubric and the assignment into the post so there could be no confusion of what the project required for that piece. All of that was in the forum for the instructor to see (they want to see the professional, respectful communication). Sure enough, the slacker didn’t do it, so on Saturday everyone took a chunk of her work and redid it. That student (to my knowledge, based on instructor feedback) did not get a grade for that assignment. I would be careful just turning it in “as is”, the rubric will get docked and all team members will get a lower grade for the overall project, and those lost points on formatting, presentation, APA accuracy, etc. may turn your individual class grade from an A to a B or a B to a C – no thank you.

I remember that assignment. That was awful for you. I always wonder what happens to those people.

Another important question I just bought a Mac (first time) my advisor told me that some people have issue with either kindle or I books? Can anyone give insight into that please I don't know if I should bring my Mac back for a regular PC this is very important

I use a MacBook that is probably around 6-7 yrs old and I don't have an issue with the textbooks. I downloaded Pageburst and haven't had any problems. In order to use PERRLA I had to purchase Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac. If you have a PC, you can download Microsoft Office for free from GCU (I think this is accessible when log in to your e-mail). HTH.

I know some people had issues on Statistics that were on Macs. The Excel for MAcs is not quite the same as a PC--so they said.....I don't have a Mac so not exactly sure what were the issues.

Yes, you and Pandora were lucky to find each other here and help one another. I find this thread extremely helpful and have learned so much.... Like to hit the refresh button :roflmao: So I am hoping that while just starting my first class, I might just befriend someone in my class to go the rest of program with.

Also start up my a Facebook page..or join others....can be very helpful!

Jj,

While we may not share the same classes I'm starting this jouney a week after you, perhaps we can still get each other through and offer support as needed over the next "few" months.
