Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

nope, didnt even goto my ADN ceremony! Ex military--have had enough ceremonies to last a lifetime, lol

I love all that pomp at military graduations though! Pretty darn cool!

Had I lived nearby I would have gone. But to go with just me? Pretty darn boring. I guess I could have congratulated myself, given myself flowers and taken a selfie for FB!:roflmao:

prob not their fault--they have had profs in the past that let them get away with it!! I do make a few short responses---but I'm not counting on the being accepted as substantive!

Same here. Some responses of mine are strictly conversational as they are intended to be.

Rather off topic just a bit, but it's odd the GCU thread was dead for a lot of years and then resurrected and now thriving. I hope it keeps growing. It's been fun sharing this journey with everyone. :)

WELCOME ON IN! Regarding PERRLA, yes, it is my savior, best $29 bucks I ever spent. BUT, good for you for reading up on APA, because every now and then PERRLA throws me a curveball and I think "that doesn't look right". tokmom told me to buy the actual 6th edition APA book, which I did, and I do reference it. Only later did I realize the entire book is online though :banghead:. Of course OWL (Purdue) is excellent, and once you're starting and have access to the online Student Success Center, there are tutorials there. I'm in class 6 and have used PERRLA throughout, but this instructor just posted a comment that she does not recommend it, she wants everyone to use the APA template provided by the school. I'll check it out, but I ain't promisin' anything.

Regarding an example DQ, ought not to do that since it is proprietary information and they reaaalllly frown upon that. They're just general questions that are not necessarily hard, but can be time consuming. Some I can whip out in 15 minutes, others have taken me hours to find the info to support my answer ('cause unless it's a personal experience, everything has to be cited/referenced). They're not bad, really! Again, Welcome!

'Bout that APA book. I like to take mine to appointments to read when I'm stuck on paper problems, hence the paper version. I also have pages dog eared because APA can't seem to stick in my brain. Owl is another one I use as well. I originally bought the APA book prior to the program, so I could start reading up on the nuances of APA.

PEERLA: What Prism said. It's only as good as the user. If it looks odd after PEERLA, I go back and fix it. It doesn't catch everything. Another good program is Grammarly for those that are comma impaired and have other grammar challenges. Go to Grammarly.com and go check it out as well as PEERLA.

Whatever you do, get familiar with a power point program and APA.

DQ: Yeah, can't share that, but it might go something like: Give 2 examples of (A certain process) that you may see in your work place and how it impacts nursing care.

Some DQ are much longer and some shorter. Another example would be giving a definition and example of certain key words in that class, such as ethics, etc..

I have a question. I have never done a ppt before but it does have the software on my lap top. My question is, Will GCU have tutorials or something to show me how to do ppt assignments? Or should I look on youtube on learning how to make a power point presentation? Starting in just 2 weeks! :nailbiting:

Hi jjPeds, I know Flames has mentioned the ppt tutorials on GCU, but I myself didn't view those. I, like you, had never done a ppt before GCU (I'm an expert now! lol) I did two things: I opened up my ppt program on my laptop and watched the tutorial that came with it, and then I created a blank "play" one that I messed with and messed with, moved things around, inserted pics, changed fonts, etc etc. I just played with it until I got the feel of it (and learned that allllll important little back arrow (undo) for when I accidentally clicked on something and my whole ppt blew up ). The second thing I did is what you suggested, I watched some YT vids. That's where I learned how to have 2 ppts up on my screen at once and move completed slides back and forth from one to the other - which comes in handy if you're the final proofer/editor on a CLC and ppl are sending you their 3 completed slides). If you have 2 weeks, just open a blank template and start playing! (I love them now, I would so much rather do those than p a p e r s ....

I didn't see those offered, or I would have gotten one.

Dangit! I want one!

Hi hi everybody!

I was getting marked down on my DQs and participation because my first class didn't require sources unless stated in the DQs and none for participation. So when my instructor posted that for participation we needed to use references or professional experiences, I thought professional experiences would be ok. WRONG!

We didn't get much grading back until the end of the second week. But I think I'm on the right track. Now, alll my postings have at lest the text book for a reference.

I was spending quite a lot of time on participation in the past, so I don't think I've every just agreed with another classmate. Although, sometimes the topic is so dry it's hard not to.

I'm gonna break each DQ down like you all suggest. Hopefully, I'll be getting full credit!
