Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Hi all! Great thread. So much great info here! I'm on my 3rd class, Health Assessment. Its driving me nuts because the prof is unclear about what she wants and docks points for stuff not on the rubric.:sarcastic:

Anywho, other than this class, it's been great. It is def work but its manageable and I've been doing well. I'm here for the 411 on the professors to take and/or avoid and any other tid bits of advice for success in the program...

Can someone please PM me the professors to avoid or request, etc? :)

I sent u 2 PMs......There is a list floating around, but I deleted my copy as I wasnt sure how accurate it was. I had 1 prof on the AVOID list and she was fine....She actually provided feedback, but did grade a tad bit higher (I still obtained an A+ in her class) Ur best bet is to prob start or find a GCU student RN to BSN FB group and find info from it as peopke can explain why they liked or did not like their Profs

I had the list but never ended up with anyone on it (good or bad). You basically just have to take the first grading assignment as an indicator of what's important to the instructor. I had one that APA was of utmost importance, one that PP format was apparently very important to her, and others that care about the substance more than the form. Some were easier, some were harder. But if you look at what's important after that first grade, you should do fine. And if they deduct things that aren't on the rubric, then you can appeal it. That's why there is a rubric, to make sure that you can cover everything they want.

Greetings everyone,

I am so happy to return to this forum. So much has happened in the last 2 yrs. I am so ready to finally commence the return to complete my BSN.

I will have to write a letter of reinstatement along with a plan of action and pray that I get accepted.

I am hoping to become accepted with you all. I believe this forum helped me so much during my first half of the program. I am looking forward to exchanging advice, encouragement, and celebration upon completion.

What have I missed in the last two years??

I just wanted to update now that I have finished the [new] 10 week Capstone... at the beginning of the Capstone all I could think reading through it all was ***** I called the professor, she clarified a couple of things, and I decided just to take each week and follow the rubrics exactly. It worked. So my advice to anyone would be just to sit back and don't over-analyze, just do what it says and you will be fine. This is a good class because the topic is what you are interested in. The final paper is still a compilation of prior work, with some added areas that are all covered/answered through your DQs. So put the time into the DQs so that you can use those for your paper.

when it comes to grading.....I honestly think it must be fairly difficult to fail, lol Well besides Stat class. Why you ask? In 1 of my "anything" classes I had to take, it had a mixture of different students in it. Pretty sure some were just starting out but there were some others that were just finishing up. 1 of the assignments we had to do was mark another students paper, then we had to post it for everyone to see. It was pretty mind blowing on how poorly some people wrote. It was very obvious they had no clue what APA was....was an interesting assignment, lol I am fortunate my wife is a good proof reader. I think many just don't proof read their work either.....Just sound half intelligent and one should do fine.....and buy PERRLA....great for ur citations and if your not sure on how to do, simply email PERRLA and the staff will get back to you within minutes.

do you have any more class Ilikeletters, or are you 100% done? I wished I had taken those 2 "anything" classes prior to Capstone, sure would have felt better hitting that SUBMIT button!! congrats

DONE ? Thanks!

can you message me the name of the nursing research instructor you had a positive experience with?

thanks!

we had to make a switch and are taking nursing leadership and management, then research, then spiritual...any good teacher recommendations would be awesome! thanks to those who sent me a message already!

Hi Flames,

So we're finally getting grades trickling in our capstone cohort. I wanted to ask you or anyone else on here how you guys documented your practice hours besides..."4 hours spent pre-writing and writing weekly assignment." In the new capstone we can get 50 hours from assignments and the rest from precisely WHERE?! Tried asking instructor but as previously mentioned, responses and GRADES have been late.

I was in the old Capstone..5 week class....it was totally different...I believe Profs have to have the grades back so many days..it should be listed in the student hand book. If ur grades are fine, not a big deal, but if they are not, you def could complain

Your cohort didn't have to document practice hours as we did? I'm really looking forward to hitting this last submit button. HAH
