Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

STEER clear of the spiritual class. My instructor was TOUGH. lots of philosophical back and forth. Not something I was into at all.

It's required, so can't steer clear of it :) Can you pm me your instructor's name? I think I am going to take this one by itself so I don't have any distractions.

I think the 2 classes most compalin about are Stats..and the spirituality class....I believe the PHI 413 has changed since I took it.(yes used to be called HLT310)...the other 2 are very doable together in my opinion

Do you mean changed in terms of content or just the name? Patho is also my strength, so it sounds like I should keep Trends and Patho together. I think I am going to do them next so that I only have the one class as I wind down. What is the Trends class about?

Ilikeletters, I would agree, you could probably do Trends and Patho together. Yes, both have group projects, and Patho only has one DQ per week, but don't be fooled - you will need more than a couple of paragraphs to answer it. They are case studies. I found the spirituality class to be challenging, and I did learn a lot from that class. If you have been doing 2 classes at a time then you should be able to continue that path, just realize that trends and patho are not lightweight classes - you will be doing A Lot of writing.

Good Luck.

So Trends and Patho both have group projects? Ugh. I've been the one to do my group projects so far in every class other one. But I've done it, so I can keep doing it. Just have to plan my time out right. What is covered in Trends?

Thanks

There were papers on the evolution of nursing care, the IOM report, reflections on your nursing practice, and the group project was on the pros and cons of continuing education. The group project in this class was my last one (yay!), and I had the best group out of all the group projects throughout the year. The instructor in this class graded more harshly in regards to APA formating. She had a teaching assistant working with her and much of the harshness was from her (in my opinion). I had not had any point deductions in any other class as far as APA went. She was also very strict on the word count - could only go 10% over the word limit. She did provide excellent feedback on your papers, which is appreciated so you know where you need to improve.

I wonder if we had the same person. I struggled with that class.

believe the class has changed since you and I took it.....believe some "ethics" were added to it....

They combined the spirituality class and the ethics class into one 5 week class. This allowed the final Capstone class to be 10 weeks, but not require you to go an additional 5 weeks longer in the program.

Yes that is true. They have combined and it is now ethics and spirituality. I just took that class a few months ago. It has been my least favorite class of the program so far. I'm surprised I managed to maintain my GPA. It is doable, I just struggled with regurgitating the material into papers... and per usual the rubrics are insanely vague. Only trends and capstone to go and I'm done!

Hey all. I finished my BSN with GCU in 2015. Recently started my MSN education with Aspen which is fine but I realized GCU requires 9 classes and Aspen requires 12. Aspen is bit more flexible allowing 6 months off between classes and no group projects! Does anyone know if GCU has group project requirements in their MSN education program?

not 100% positive, but I recall someone stating that GCU does have group projects..quick email to your old adviser will answer that question. GL

Thank you. Group projects are a deal breaker for me. LOL

I lucked out for most of my group projects.....only had 1 group where 1 gal did nothing...which looking at her DQs..it was a bonus she did nothing, lol More or less emailed her and told her we had it covered and not to worry...she was smart enough to listen to that, lol But yes some people do run into some nightmare situations.. I think the key part is taking the lead and in a nice manner lay out the groundwork.....most just want to be told what to do and get it over with, lol
