Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
Thank you for taking the time to answer, 4mranch! This is the first time I hear a clear explanation of the immersion hours. I suspected it would be like something you described, but heard everything from "it will be like a clinical" to "you'll have to spend all of the required hours with your mentor" which was a questionable requirement considering other commitments outside of the BSN program and the mentor's availability. Don't think my future mentor would appreciate me hanging around with them for a hundred hours either. I imagine the counselors don't always have a clear picture of the capstone and that's where the Field Experience Advisor comes in, but I like to have a good idea of what's coming as early on as possible, so I can prepare myself.
Thank you!
I'm all for change..but doesnt sound like the changes they made for the 10 week class provide any true learning benefit...just make it more of a hassle for you and for the person that has to be your mentor! We had to get a RN BSN (or higher) to sign off on our Capstone, but that was about it. GL

Hi -
Does anyone have feedback on these 3 classes:
NRS-410V Pathophysiology and Nursing Management of Clients' Health
NRS-440VN Trends and Issues in Today's Health Care
PHI-413V Ethical and Spiritual Decision Making in Health Care
I have to take two of them together, which two are better to take together (require less time)? As of right now I am scheduled to take PHI-413 alone and the other two together, but I've been taking two at a time and I feel like I should just keep the momentum going and take 410 or 440 with it, unless they each have pretty significant loads. I've done really well with two at a time so far, have a 4.0, but I put in way more work than what they say it should take.
Thanks for any advice!
Ilikeletters, I would agree, you could probably do Trends and Patho together. Yes, both have group projects, and Patho only has one DQ per week, but don't be fooled - you will need more than a couple of paragraphs to answer it. They are case studies. I found the spirituality class to be challenging, and I did learn a lot from that class. If you have been doing 2 classes at a time then you should be able to continue that path, just realize that trends and patho are not lightweight classes - you will be doing A Lot of writing.
Good Luck.

STEER clear of the spiritual class. My instructor was TOUGH. lots of philosophical back and forth. Not something I was into at all.

Hi Fan. There is a mentor evaluation form to fill out and turn in to get that person approved as your mentor. They need to have at least a BSN and have been a RN for two years. You will also need to provide a copy of their license, a resume, and a copy of their diploma (I just had my mentor take a picture of hers and sent that in as a PDF). Your facility also has to have an agreement and get approved. I had a liaison from GCU contact me to get the paperwork started and receive approval.
As far as the immersion hours - that is just a fancy way of saying you have to keep track of the time you spend researching and working on your project. You can include any seminars that pertain to your project as well as the time you spend working with your mentor. I just made a table in a Word document to track the hours I spent per each week. It is not terribly difficult, but you do need to be organized and there is more paperwork involved in the longer course.
