Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

How has the prof marked up until now? Have they mentioned being strict on a word limit? I found most marked very fair and no real surprises. I missed a whole section on 1 of my papers...which is a lot worse than going over the word limit and yes I got docked, but not a great deal..could have been far worse, lol I recall only 1 prof that I had that stated up front that 1 had to pay attention to word count, it sure does change how 1 tackles the paper. For Capstone i asked right away regarding word count. I'm sure you will be fine. And if you look in the rubric, it shows how much that portion of ur paper is worth (forget the section and I'm not at home) and its prob not worth a great %......Cheers

i had a grades of 90% PICOT, 96% qual, and 98% quan; but only quan went over the limit by a couple hundred- in the last paper i went over by almost 1000 words :banghead:

Usually you are not docked too much. I don't think I was ever under.

How'd it go?

I didn't have professors that were strict on the word count, I'd just get a remark about "wow, you went over the word count but......" never got docked

In 1 of my "anything" classes I had a prof that had a strict word count in her DQs....think it was 200 or 250 and that was it..she docked u big time if u went over.....The class was rather bland, so I dropped it,lol I imagine she would have been a word nazi on the papers.

5 Week Capstone/1st week question:

Hi everyone, especially everyone that graduated under the old program. I will (hopefully) soon be an alumni, but I have a question about our first week's assignment for this class. Besides the lit review of 8 sources, we are supposed to turn in a 500-700 word description of the capstone project, including the problem, setting where it can be observed, description regarding the problem, impact of problem, significance of problem, and proposed solution. That's assignment 1. Assignment #2 is basically the PICOT statement in a 500-700 word paper that "clearly identifies the clinical problem and how it can result in a positive patient outcome."

So, the PICOT statement should be part of assignment 1 right? The picot problem and the capstone project would be the same, and the proposed solution in assignment #1 would be the evidenced based solution?

It seemed like an odd way to break down the assignment, just want to make sure I understand it correctly. Thank you for reading!

We had t review 15 articles..8 of which had to be research based.........I just kept it simple..and answered the question (don't think to deeply into it) but I actually didn't break my Picot down in that paper. As I recall there were 3 assignments in the first week.....1 of which is where u did the Picot..very short and sweet......Then the review of 15 articles.....and then the assignment u are asking about....as mentioned I just answered the 5 questions it asked....No where did I say PICOT in that paper...of course its going to relate to the PICOT...I'm still half asleep, lol so I prob don't make much sense, sorry.......I was doing capstone April 2015....good times

Ok, another stupid question related to PICOT/Capstone. Is our capstone project the final product of all the assignments in the Capstone class? That comes up to a minimum of 5,750 words. Aren't most people's papers longer than that?

Also, does anyone know where on the GCU website they have previous Capstone papers posted? The librarians told me once but I didn't mark it and can't find it again.

I suggest you start looking at the weeks ahead and looking at all thats required......I believe in week 5 under RESOURCES, then course material there is an example of the Capstone paper...it even tells you where to put what module where.....of course its not as simple as copy/paste..still have to make it flow nicely, etc etc. Yes, the capstone paper is the accumulation of nearly everything week 1 to 4..just follow the example u find in week 5. One can email the librarians and they will email back the link to find the GCU capstone papers. My paper was around 10,000 words(39 pages) I'm sure some are much more, some a bit less......My prof wasn't concerned about word count, and most prob are not...but there are some....GL.

So got my final grades back today after hitting that submit button last Sunday night. I'm floored. It is over. I did it. April 28th I will walk across the stage and graduate like a BA getting a BA! It took me 12 months and fourteen days! I am so happy and cannot believe it! Thank you flames for all the guidance and help. I cannot tell you the difference it has made!

I had some excitement when I clicked on that SUBMIT button, but I still had 2 more "anything" classes to go. Was difficult to stay motivated, lol Enjoy ur walk..ceremonies/crowds are not my thing, did not even goto my ADN Pinning...Was chilling with a rum/coke on an Alaskan cruise that night, lol Enjoy..you earned it!

Congratulations Krystalized!! I am sure that feels awesome. I am so looking forward to not having some kind of deadline hanging over my head. I start my capstone, and last class, tomorrow.

Enjoy your graduation!!
