Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

It's been a while, since I was here in the forum, you guys are rock!! I have started the first class, so far I like it a lot! I am thinking about 2 weeks break, since I need time with my son, I am wondering also of I can get the next class materials before the start of the 2nd class during my break. My advisor expected me to tell her 2 week prior to the end of class for asking a break, but that is not a univ's policy, right? Have u taken a 2 week break, how it works? Able to get the next class' matrerial?

Thank you

I just finished up week 4. I have to say I am enjoying my classes very much.

You cannot get the class material if you take a 2 week break, but sometimes a break is good just to recenter yourself.

You do not need to tell them 2 weeks in advance though it's advised.

I am in Community/public health and there is a community teaching plan for the last week. That looks like a lot of work. Any suggestions for those that have taken that class?

I know a person that has built in 2 week separation between all her classes. Pandora and I have take a couple 2 week breaks and will be taking another one before the Capstone.

You cannot get the material ahead that far ahead, but the class is usually up the Friday before the class starts. I'm always in the class on Friday, copying the syllabus, reading and starting my paper.

I cannot help on this one because I know they changed the assignment. What was my CLC Project is your single project!!

Oh ok. I actually have one CLC assignment for next week that we also have to interview a community then do a power point. And the following week (which is my last) I have another project. I just don't know how I can get everything done. I got a job as a RN (finally!!) and will not have much time to work on this project :(

(((hugs)))

You CAN do it! Many of us work full time, and work long hours. This is where the sacrifice of family, decent food and enough sleep comes into play until you get it done :bag:. Many of us get just a few hours of sleep before we go back to work. If I get 5 tonight I will be golden because I have the paper from hell to write :sniff:. I eat, sleep and think about my homework. Now that you have a full time job (Congrats!), try to plan ahead next time. Get into the classroom early (on Fri) and start working on DQ, reading, papers. Anything to propel you ahead. It might mean sacrificing your days off (literally) by sitting and doing nothing for a couple of days. But if you get ahead, it really helps take the pressure off. I understand this advice doesn't pertain to all. Some can write a paper in two days and do well. I'm not that kind of person. It takes me a week of editing, etc.. to be happy with my work.

Hi gikg, I found CPH the most challenging class so far, not because of the content but because of the massive disorganization and confusion surrounding the assignments. Apparently they switched things up recently, some previous individual assignments are now CLCs and vice versa, the rubrics didn't match the assignments, the materials for week 4 looked like they belonged in week 5, and semantics got in the way of clarity. When they revamped they left some old language here and there that just didn't match, and we were left with gazillions of questions. And as if lack of clarity wasn't bad enough (who has time for that? Just tell me what you want me to do so I can get on with it!), I personally felt my instructor interpreted a few things differently than they were stated, so we ended up doing extra work that I know other classes didn't do. I hope they cleared some things up since then?! But yes, if I recall, the last 2 weeks of that class were pretty ugly, if you do have an opportunity to work ahead I would definitely recommend it! :wacky: Congrats on the new job!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what I was thinking taking two classes at once. So far Leadership and Management doesn't seem so bad, but Nursing trends seems to suck, or at least this first paper does.

I've opted for the 2 week break, I need those 14d to repair all my fried synaspses! The others are correct, you can't get your syllabus or peek at the class until a couple days before it starts (bummer). As far as I know, the limitations on breaks are based on what kind of a payer you are - if you utilize financial aid they don't allow breaks unless you file an official application for permission. Also, if you utilize the ANA discount, you'll lose it if your break is >14d (thus my breaks are exactly 14d ). I'm considered "self-pay" with tuition reimbursement from my employer, so they haven't put any restrictions on me. My advisor is not thrilled, but I do keep showing up, so so far they really haven't said anything.

Im paying out of pocket---and was told I can take breaks when I want and for any amount of time. BUT to keep the ANA discount, I have to "ask for permission. I'm in the middle of my 3 weeks off, and that was no problem to get approved and keep the 10% discount.

I think the Leadership papers are worse, lol!! I remember Trends being busy though, with some pretty nasty papers and a CLC. :woot:

Good luck in your juggling. Leadership is keeping me busy enough, I can't imagine doing two classes. What are your next 2?
