Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Prism, that was not pleasant for you at all. That class did a complete 180 from what I just a few months prior. I think GCU is revamping as they go, and you guys are caught in the wake. I do know a person who graduated from GCU 4 yrs ago now, says her projects/homework was waaay different that what I have done thus far.

BTW, nice to see you here, Prism! :)

Maybe it is just this first paper that I am not enjoying for Trends. The other papers for leadership look pretty nasty. This is the only time I will be taking 2 classes at once. After this i only have patho and capstone left.

Ok now you guys are making me nervous!! Why are the papers yucky/intense? Is it the length? Number of articles? I was told they were doing away with the ANA discount starting this month. If you were signed up before then though you are grandfathered in. JRich you have patho and capstone left? Do the classes not go in the same order for everyone or the order listed on their website?

No, they dont seem to go in the same order for everyone, I know 1 gal and I started at the same time, but her next course was different!! As some people get credit for some of the classes and don't have to do them.

He hawww, grandfathered in,lol

The Trends ones were easier than the Leadership ones. OMG, they are NOT fun. I have issues with staying within the word count, like Leadership seems to want for papers, yet they ask you to speak about so much information, it's just silly. The power point on values/management and whatever else makes my head spin. IMO, that should be a CLC project (Did I just say that?):roflmao:

Like Flames said, they do not go in order for everyone.

The word count goes up for some of them, and the topic is dry and very in-depth. I really had to really read that leadership book and do a lot of online looking. Don't fret too much about the class just yet. You will be fine. It's just so dry!

I know a lot of you mentioned that stats is hard. I was wondering how hard is it? Do we have to write papers or it is just math problems? I am trying to decide if I take a break or not. I just started my first RN job and don't want to deal with school while I'm adjusting to the new job. But if it is just math then I think I can do one more class since I am good at math (at least was in college). Thanks.

I think this first paper for Trends sucks. I feel like they are asking a million things about the “Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.” report thing. I don't know how to get it all in there and under the word count. I also feel like I am going all over the place trying to get everything that is in the rubric

Ask your instructor if they adamant about the word count. Many are not, actually. I have gone close to a 1000 over and never been docked, but I do clear it with them first.

I actually had to get the IOM report that I had printed, back out and re-read the darn thing. I found myself sort of all over too, on what they were really looking for. I'm finding leadership is much the same way.

yeah, this is just crazy. I feel like I am jumping all over the place, and like this is how important things will be missed. I will ask the instructor and see what she says. She doesn't seem to be too active in the class right now. My Leadership teacher is very active.

I'm in stats now, week 4 is coming to a close. I thought I was good at math, algebra, and the like, but one thing I learned is this stats stuff ain't math. Sure, you divide and multiply a couple things here and there, and there are those old familiar "X"'s you think you remember from algebra (but they don't mean what they used to mean...), and people talk in a language that just twists my brain into a pretzel. There are no papers (yay!), there are weekly assignments that consist of Excel spreadsheets and word problems (boo!) Call me crazy but I'm actually trying to learn this stuff, which may be my problem and why I constantly feel like I should just stick a fork in my eye. It's only 5 weeks but since statistics is such a complex subject, 5 weeks just isn't long enough to actually get a grasp on week 1 before you fly into week 2 and so on. But, you need a handle on each week because they all build to a final crescendo and if you didn't get the lingo down early on (like I still haven't), it makes for a tough go. Everybody's different, so you may be just fine and a complete whiz at this! I, sadly, am not. If I could get a temporary license plate it might say something like IH8STATZ. But that's just me, I marvel at those who get it and love it. SOOOOO, I have exactly 9 days, 1 hour and 11 minutes left and then I'm freeeeeeeeeee! Buh-BYE crazy stuff that doesn't make any sense to me!

Just how high does the word count go up? I am guessing I might as well print the IOM report now lol. The second paper in prof. dynamics is based on it (You already know unless they changed the curriculum). By all this essay talk I'm already looking forward to stats lol.
