Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
I don't want to go back to school, lol!! I completed the Stats course early, and start nursing research March 31st....so dont want to do any more school, lol I think I have 6 more classes to go--well 8, but can test out of 2.
Weather has warmed up here in Saskatoon Canada, had reached the +'s!! But currently -12C at 0900
Prism,
You totally crack me up!! I too was so happy to go back to paper writing and get away from stats.
RN0511...
The highest word count is 1250 with a minimum of 1000. It sounds like a lot until you look at what they expect you to cover, then it's figuring out what is important and what is not and hoping you are culling the correct stuff.
YES..if you have large printing capabilities, print out the IOM and keep it. I was so happy that I had it at my disposal for other classes. It is online too, but if you like hold physical things, I recommend it. I took that bugger with me to kid appts, so I could highlight and read during Prof dynamics. After I was a done, I put it away, thankfully.
Stats: READ AHEAD and get the verbiage down NOW. DO NOT WAIT. There is a book called Statistics for Healthcare professionals that is 50 or so on Amazon (you can find used on ebay for roughly half), that has a lot of verbiage and it talks about healthcare examples, so you can get it grasp on stats on stuff you can relate too. Stats for dummies is really good too.
My fear with stats was failing this class, so I read months ahead. I got the book in January of 2013 and started school in Feb. I was reading before I even started school. Every night, even after work. I would read a chapter and do some of the problems they had. If I didn't understand it, I would read before I moved on. So when stats started, the verbiage didn't scare me, because I knew it and the symbols were familiar, which like Prism said was half the battle.
Is it fun? NO. Is it doable? Yeah, but it's a long 5 weeks.

Balmy Canada!
What courses do you test out of again? Research is ok. It is a ton of writing different statistical papers, but after stats, it is refreshing. NO CLC either (unless they have recently changed that).
I have been working like a dog to get ahead in Leadership. I have all the big papers and ppt done (well, in rough draft, but close enough) and need to work on week 5 today. After this, is the CAPSTONE!!!
Not sure exactly which 2 I tested out of----1 was community health, think the other was ethics??
Lucky you! Community was just heavy and Ethics was ok. I took it while sick with food poisoning for two weeks of the class. I could hardly think straight. I had a difficult time grasping concepts, but I'm sure the dehydration had something to do with that, lol.
I'm nervous about the capstone. I wish someone would show up on AN and give us all the gory details.
Ask your instructor if they adamant about the word count. Many are not, actually. I have gone close to a 1000 over and never been docked, but I do clear it with them first.
I had one paper that the range was 1750-2000 words. I am also one that just cannot stay within the word count (obviously lol), and the editing becomes the most difficult part because, of course, everything I initially put in there I thought was important at the time! I agree - ASK your instructor at the beginning of every class. They're not all the same - I've had one instr who said, "no problem! I'm glad you learned enough that you have so much to say!", but then a different instructor said something to the effect of "no, the word count is there for a reason and it's important to learn how to get your point across within a reasonable amount of material". I have left a lot of (what I thought was) good stuff on the cutting room floor.

Whhaaaa?? "statistical papers"? You mean I can't burn all these stats books next weekend? I was gonna have a bonfire partay in my backyard? I was so looking forward to the smell of smoldering laminated reference trifolds wafting in the air... Do tell, Mama Tokmom... Well at least no CLC, that's reason enough for a partay right there.

Oh yes, *that* paper with the high word count. I can't remember what it is now. All those bloody papers blend together!
This word count thing is one reason why Pandora and I ditched our initial Leadership instructor. She actually DEDUCTED points if you went OVER! Heck, she probably deducted if you sneezed, and she deducted for lack of correct APA. Anyway, our current instructor doesn't count title page or references (maybe others did not, but this is the first one that mentioned it) and we can go a 100 words over. The last paper in Leadership had me chopping, moving around paragraphs onto another Word doc to save for later, and calculating the numbers of words I had left to play with.
Speaking of my current paper that I'm supposed to be working on right this second, but took a side trip here instead, has a cap of 1250. I'm maybe...1/3 of the way through and my word count is already 525 words. I know I will be editing my paper, trying to figure out what isn't important.
