Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
Haven't been around much over the break... Lots of stuff happening around here, just like everyone else I assume. I feel bad I didn't chime in around Christmas, I too am thankful for everyone here. I do appreciate everyone's comments about continuing school. I can't argue with everything that was said, they are all true. I do/will eventually finish my BSN, either now or later. I still am not sure I will continue right now.
The extra pay thing is kind of the last straw, it was promised when I was hired. I had a choice of positions after graduation (some included traveling) but I chose to stay here because eventually I would be making the extra money. Can't take advantage of the schooling money because of the program limits etc. So I am stuck. If I slow it down and wait it out then I can use some of the tuition reimbursement which might be a reason to draw out this BSN thing.
I am dragging my feet on working on the last weeks projects, just can't seem to get motivated. I have done the discussions but haven't done the movie PP or the Elderly adult assessment. It would be wise to finish before the week starts but having troubles. I am exhausted and just want to relax a little.
Thanks everyone for the comments, I have done lots of thinking but no decisions. Thinking about taking 2 weeks off between classes as to not get (more) burned out so quickly. Wife is on board no matter what I choose because she sees how this is wearing on me. Maybe I should have taken time off between nursing school and my BSN.
I did it for personal satisfaction, nursing practice improvement and job security in the nursing world.
I hear what you are saying, but there are many more topics I would want to be studying instead of rehashing what I did in nursing school. I have purchased a couple books on perioperative nursing I want to go through and haven't opened them yet. I am too busy with GCU and when I am not I am trying to rest.
This idea is so appealing to me because I am beyond burnt out and totally miserable right now. I've been in school close to or at full time for over 5 years straight. Taking a few months off, then taking a class, then taking a few more off sounds so enjoyable, and l think i would enjoy the classes more. Right now I'm just going through the motions to complete the work, but I'm completely uninterested in all of the classes and material.
I would rather take 2 years to finish my last 6 classes and enjoy life, than get it done in a year and be hating life.
This is kind of me right now and I have only been a nurse for 6 months...... I know how it feels, so I am thinking of you rainyn. It really sucks to feel this "down".
My current instructor graded my last 2 assignments pretty harshly so it doesn't help my motivation either. First assignment was my fault, I misread a question and answer on the instructor forum and thought I was completing the assignment how she wanted it. The other was the CLC project which I was lucky to complete with little help from my group. I learned not to ever be the group leader again. Maybe I should get used to an A-.

I guess you need to think on what you wish to do......and if you can arrange interviews with managers of those units and see whats going to be more beneficial..specialized courses, or the BSN??
For me I would think its more beneficial to get more specialized training, I have no desire to do anything else besides being a foot warrior, and many of these classes are bot truly required...but since I won't be back in the USA until 2017, I have time to kill, so it makes sense to get the BSN, and then do specialized classes.....Every ones case is different...
I took nearly 6 months off from the program so I could just chill......Do what is best for you.............best of luck

I relate - I graduated 12/13 with my ADN, passed the NCLEX 2/14, started GCU 3/14, and started my first RN job 4/14.
I also struggled with grades in my first two classes, and then realized I had crappy instructors that had high expectations and graded harshly. I was considering dropping from GCU because of it. But since I have made a huge point of getting instructor referrals for all classes, and so far that has been working. I have found the requirements and grading more reasonable. But it is the pace that is hard, I'm a single mom with 4 kids in grade/middle school. I have no family locally, and my kid's father is not local as well. I'm overwhelmed!
I'm going to stick it out a little longer with GCU and just work less, I'll see how long I can stay afloat financially. I will probably be reconsidering and revising my plan many times before I complete the program.
Hang in there. My advice, choose the path of least resistance and then find peace with your decision.
I am looking ahead to week 5 project in Community Health. I am hoping the teacher will give us more information when we get back tomorrow because I am confused! i am doing my project on hand washing with a group of preschoolers. I am not sure how to fill out the Proposal. The nursing diagnosis is to include: Readiness for Learning, Learning Theory to be Utilized, and the Goal. The Goal is to be according to Healthy People 2020 objectives. It says to include the appropriate objective number and rationale. I am a little confused by this. If any of you remember this assignment could you shed some light on it for me? I hope I am making this to be more complicated than it is. But I have a feeling this WHOLE assignment is complicated! It's a whopper!

You're not nuts, it's a confusing assignment description. First, your interpretation of the nursing dx is incorrect (not your fault). It's not asking that your Nsg Dx include those things. It wants 4 separate things:
1. A Nursing Dx.
2. How you will determine your audience's readiness to learn.
3. The learning theory you will use for your presentation.
4. Goal: State which HP2020 objective you are trying to satisfy with your teaching. It wants the specific objective number (from the HP2020 website) that best fits your subject. btw, the assignment description is outdated, it says to choose from one of the 24 focus areas (called "topics" on the website) or 2 overarching goals. Nowadays there are >40 focus areas/topics & 4 overarching goals.
Thanks, PrismRN!! You spelled out the expectations much more clearly than in the syllabus. I looked back at some the other posts regarding this same question on this thread and you came to the rescue and saved a few others from pulling out their hair!! Some of these assignments need to be updated and spelled out for those of us that can't read between the lines!!
Prism should become a GCU instructor...I think of all the classes that have changed, the community health is the one that boggles my mind. My assignments were so much more clear cut and what was a CLC for us, is a solo project for you guys.
Uh NO, but I'd be happy to take a part time job as their "Assignment Description Translator", ya think I can talk them into it??

I was never one of them. I had interruptions from pets, children and husband.
