Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
Anybody else in Patho right now? Or upcoming soon? Lookie what I found, just googling around; this is so beautiful it brings a tear to my eye... why don't they ALL do this??
That is something beautiful!!!
I am in Stats right now. Just awaiting to start the 3rd week after break. I am getting an A- and that is because the grading for this class is 90% instead of the usual 92%. And I sure in the heck did not get that from understanding any of it! I understand like 1% the mean, mode, and median... It is because of GCU tutors and google! I hate the DQs the most in this class. I feel like I have nothing to say and it is all repetitive reading on others responses. Cant wait for January 25 for spirituality!
I really struggled with the DQ. It really can show if the student is BS'ing or not. I learned more than I thought I did, but I didn't realize it until research. That's when the lightbulb came on.
Thanks for the insight everyone. I may put off taking a hiatus after all. My work schedule is 5 nights on (8 hour shifts), 9 nights off. I usually pick-up on those 9 off so I'm not so financially tight. I'm now thinking about just sucking it up, taking all 9 off and being frugal for the next 9 months. Then I'm thinking I should have the time to devote to school without feeling so burnt out.
In my personal opinion...if one is able to research well....and is a good writer, you can excel at this program. I know people that can turn out a good paper in a matter of hours. Of course those people may be few and far between, lol I think after that 1st paper with each prof, you have a good idea on their expectations
True Tokmom, I for the most part start off BS'ing but after reading others posts trying to find something to respond to, I realize I am actually learning the definitions of all the terminology.. My schedule got rearranged and I had Research, then ethics and now stats. So I am in my 7/12 classes with the spirituality next.I really struggled with the DQ. Have a question regarding week 5 assignment of Community Health, you know, that FUN assignment! (community teaching work plan proposal, presentation, and teaching experience paper) I just want to know how I am going to write a 1,500-2,000 word paper describing the teaching experience and observations I made? Let's say I choose to teach hand washing to the preschoolers at the school I work at- is it hard to come up with enough to say about that subject? I could also teach the special needs preschoolers or special needs elementary age kids if anyone has any other ideas! I will consider all suggestions! Thank goodness I have next week off to work on this project.

Considering this was my longest paper to date (13 words shy of 3,000), I'd say no LOL, it's not hard to find enough to say! Obviously my paper was overkill just based on the word count, but what I ended up doing was encorporating a lot of what I said in the proposal. My paper included basically the "why" this is such a problem (according to these references), what my CH leader had to say about my proposal and his suggestions, then went into my methods/theories and how the actual teaching experience went; where it went well, then my own observations of where it may have fallen short and what happened that I didn't expect and had to work around, and just basically an evluation of the whole experience. Good luck, I also was off work that week, not sure I could have done it all if not. You have to do the proposal first, then show it to a CH/PH professional for their feedback, then DO the presentation (hopefully early in the week), then write that novella about how the whole thing went. MAN that was a tough week!
Sorry, I didn't give you many suggestions . Your issue (aka barrier) may just be keeping them all focused long enough to listen to you! You'll definitely need some fun visual aids and activities to keep them from straying. Sing the ABC song or the Happy Birthday song for how long they should scrub. What kind of physical presentation are you going to make for your assignment? A posterboard with age-appropriate pictures? Play-Doh germs with fun googly eyes & pipecleaners? A fun shout-out game for good answers to When should we wash our hands???†Lotion bottle with glitter in it to show them how easy germs spread when you touch your face or shake hands? On 2nd thought, is this too much for 4 year olds (c'mon, tokmom, chime in here, I don't' have kids! LOL), could you do 1st – 2nd graders instead? BTW, something to ask your Instructor – if it's not downloadable to the assignment submission forum like a Word doc flyer, how can you get your project to her for grading? My instructor allowed students to take a picture of their poster and upload the pic.
The CDC has a handwashing page with great (referenceable) info.
Also, I googled how long should preschoolers wash their hands forâ€, and a couple similar phrases, and came up with some good stuff.

…and of course, Pinterest… I love Pinterest, put something in the search bar like kids germs†or preschooler handwashingâ€, I had fun reading it and I'm not even doing your project LOL (of course Pinterest isn't scholarly, just a great place to get ideas). This sounds like fun!
Wow!! Thanks, PrismRN for some great ideas! I was afraid that I would not have enough to write about, but I see that it shouldn't be a problem. Those are great ideas for hand washing! Who knew it could be so fun! Luckily, I will be starting week 3 of the class next week so I do have some time to plan. I think a poster board would be the best for this group and it is one of the choices for delivery of the presentation given by the teacher. I will have to find out how to submit it though. This is just another reason I LOVE this site!!
