Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Example Tokmom, what does this even mean? In my opinion it seems like some sort of riddle and this is how everything is explained in this course.

This assignment is not about comparing and contrasting religious traditions, beliefs, and practices of 4 religions. It is purposefully about comparing and contrasting...the philosophy of care and components of healing of the 3 researched diverse religions with that of Christianity. Let the "Christian Perspective of Healing" reflect the broad principles of care and healing across the vast landscape of Christian adherents.

Breathe! Take a deep breath and don't panic?

Second : what don't you understand. I thought the assignments were fairly straightforward, so maybe I can help? If I'm in your way, then I apologize and will crawl back under my rock.

Guess ur prof likes to add their own special touch to the paper topics...I just looked at ours...and it just states it is comparing and contrasting.......no where do I see the word "Purposeful" Ensure u take a look at what the Rubric states! All I did was pick 3 religions and compared and contrasted them..and answered the other parts of the questions as well.

Oh WAIT Beauty, I get it!!! What the Instr is saying is.... the assignment is not asking you to compare/contrast the 4 religions against EACH OTHER, they want you to describe 3, and then compare/contrast THOSE THREE to Christianity. I'm sorry, I remember this now. Here's what I did: Section on religion #1, and at the end of that section wrote a blurb about how they are similar/dissimilar to Christianity. Next section - religion #2, same thing. Next Section - religion #3, same thing. I just chose to put the compare/contrasts at the end of each one, however, it would also be fine to describe the three, and then in one final paragraph compare/contrast them ALL to Christianity.

That last sentence doesn't even make any sense to me, but as long as you do the above, you should be fine.

OH and don't forget that this assignment requires an abstract! (many in my class did not do that part, big no-no oversight)

Prisim I thought that's how I was suppose to do the assignment but check this out:

Critical reminder:

This is not a “Comparative Religion” paper (i.e., simply comparing/contrast religious facts, origins, beliefs, and practices...unrelated to healing process). This paper is about these 3 diverse faiths’ perspectives and practices with relation to…the components of care and the healing process, per the assignment requirements. YOU WILL GET A LOW GRADE FOR A PAPER THAT JUST ADDRESSES RELIGIOUS FACTS, BELIEFS, TRADITIONS, PRACTICES. FOCUS LARGELY ON COMPONENTS OF CARE AND HEALING PER FAITH, PLEASE. COMPARE/CONTRAST WITH CHRISTIANITY’S COMPONENTS.

Make sure that whatever religious/spiritual information, beliefs, or practices you write about from the various faiths mostly relate directly to…the healing process, embraced by the patient in the hospital on the road to recovery.

For example: Muslims traveling to Mecca contrasted with Christians and Jews going to Jerusalem. Cool. But what does going to Mecca or Jerusalem have to do with…the philosophy of care and the healing process of a patient in the hospital??

If you want to share some religious background to set context, fine. But be careful that your paper doesn’t subtly morph into comparing religious beliefs and practices that have nothing to do withthe components of the healing process.

Tokmom you could never be in the way. I am confused on what exactly I should be doing because the instructor said its not a compare and contrast paper. Check out the critical reminder and tell me what you think please. I'm not sure if I am just not getting it or my brain is fried from writing so many papers at this point.

Is what the prof is saying---match the Rubric? if not, ask for clarification, as the rubric states this.....

Beauty, I think I get her critical reminder info. She just probably has gotten waaaay too many papers in the past that go on and on about the intricacies of each religion and what they believe, and thought she'd remind everyone in advance that this paper should focus solely on how these religions address their healthcare and how a NURSE could and should address their HEALTHCARE preferences when ill. I think it makes sense, actually it's kind of nice that she has given you permission to cut out all the historical stuff, etc., and just focus on their healthcare preferences and practices. It will cut down on the wordcount for sure!

Like for example: Some reigions do not allow blood products, respect that and find alternative therapies. Some religions have sacred physical items (or undergarments, etc) that you should respect and not touch, so always ask pt's before you move/remove them. Some have food preferences that may/may not interfere with their healing or prescribed meds, so check w/ MD, pharmacy, dietary for recommendations/alternatives. Some may rely heavily on family support, so allow additional visitors when able. Respect that some religions have specific rituals they must perform. Some have a need for strict privacy when praying, so respect that and keep the door closed when family or clergy are with them. Some are extreme when it comes to modesty, so respect that. Do not touch a person physically without permission. Some prefer you speak only to the men in the family, so respect that if you can (HIPAA can sometimes be an issue here if pt has not designated or given written permission). Some have specific end of life preferences. Some believe direct eye contact is disrespectful, which may lead a health care professional to believe the pt is not paying attn or worse, is noncompliant/disinterested, etc., etc.

Sorry that was so long, I kinda got on a roll - whattaya know, I guess I learned a lot in that class! :roflmao:

Prism you rock!!!! I understand your version far better! Thanks for all your help!

Whoops. I used this exact example in my paper. I guess my teacher didn't mind! Or maybe she thought I was just setting the context. :x3:

Okay all you APA pro's, I have a question. Doing my LC submission and ran into a problem with referencing webpages. The confusion exists because I did more research on the correct way to reference information gathered from websites and now I am all jumbled up in my head.

I want to reference material pulled from this website:

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sickle-cell-anemia/basics/symptoms/con-20019348 .

In the past I have used this as a reference in a similar circumstance:

Mayo Clinic Staff. (2014). Symptoms. In Diseases and symptoms: Sickle cell anemia. Retrieved from http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sickle-cell-anemia/basics/symptoms/con-20019348

I tried an online reference generator and can up with this:

Sickle cell anemia. (2014, June 11). Retrieved December 16, 2014, from http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sickle-cell-anemia/basics/symptoms/con-20019348

My brain is full of information due to hours sitting here coming up with my assigned power point pages. Anyone willing to chime in and help me with this? I haven't been graded wrong in the past but it doesn't mean that it is correct.

I use PERRLA and have never had any major issues with it, think a free one is easybib.com

I quickly put in ur stuff and with Perrla, it gave me
