Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Hi rainyn, yes I was thinking maybe stats swallowed you up :) So I have a question for the ppl that use the tutoring services (I didn't, actually forgot they were there when I needed them). Do they tell you which ones are wrong? Can you just keep submitting until it's at 100%? I know they don't give you the answers, but if they've gone through everything, how does it work out that you end up with 86/90 after a tutor has looked at it and said "yep, you're good to go"?

Congrats on the house!!! :house: I agree, I'm not sure I could handle a job, moving, 4 kids around the holidays AND school - whew! Well keep checking in, but if we don't see you for a while, Merry Christmas a little early!

Yes, but I have to finish my BSN.

there were 4 of us in my stats class who used the tutor service and all received failing grades on one assignment. When questioned the instructor stated she would like to know who the tutor was (I think we all had different ones) and comments on the graded paper basically said she gave us points for effort. My answers were the same as the ones she listed as the correct one but if I remember correctly it was spelled out instead of in "formula form". Yes this is the same instructor who gave me a zero on the assignment I wasn't able to submit because I submitted part one before downloading part 2 so I submitted it in the individual forum several hours before it was due while simultaneously asking her to reassign if she wanted them submitted together. Then when questioned on that she stayed with giving me a zero and praised me for being victorious. Yes… I'm still bitter! Least helpful instructor I've experienced so far in this program.

Would you possibly message me with the instructors name? Does not sound like I want this person.

What the heck, a failing grade?? I would want to throttle that tutor!!

You should have told her to take get victory and shove it.

I found that the tutor sessions I would get different answers. What helped was that on day one all the tutor sessions were taken and I was directed by my counselor to use Thinking Storm (free 10 hours every year). I went to those sessions with my papers completed, and they would work every single problem with me. Sometimes it was a matter of "it's correct" and move on to the next question, and others they would show me how to do the problem. When I was done with those sessions I would clean up the notes and post and I never lost a point. I did start using the regular tutor at GCU but would always have Thinking Storm check it....there was more than one time that the tutors were wrong. Thinking Storm rocks!

I use thinking storm (serious kudos to Winterwhite for the recommendation) and I seem to usually go between two different tutors. They will review my assignment and tell me when something is not correct. They then walk me through trying to figure out what the correct answer is. I ultimately get the correct answer through them, and usually understand how I got it lol.

As far as getting that one multiple choice question wrong, it was a pick the correct formula and sometimes the choices are so similar from each other that it can be difficult for me to figure it out. I don't know if the tutor missed it or if I accidentally changed it

I do have to say that I was using the tutor tonight with my Excel assignment, that I followed directly from the instructor tutorials, and the tutor pointed out and cleared up a mistake the instructor made in the tutorial. The instructor talked about how for this particular question our alternative hypothesis is to find out if there is a decrease in time, when in actuality an alternative hypothesis is measuring a change in time, not a specific increase or decease. So I just needed to tweak my wording from decrease in time to change in time. I understand the material more by using the tutor and I've gotten 100% on everything except that one multiple choice question.

I am going to start my orientation week this week, begin class the following week, 10/20. For the most part issues are resolved. I believe this will take me right up to the holidays. I have downloaded PEERLA. Looked at some webinars, etc... I am a bit skard about riding down the canyon on Fred, but other than that, good to go!
