Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
Prism, who did you have look over your proposal and give you feedback? I'm starting community health on Monday and I want to get started on this assignment early on as well. I have a place/group to present to, some ideas on what to teach, but now I'm wondering who I should have look over my proposal.
wow! I have been off here for more than 2 weeks (laid off, had to move, son had colitis diagnosis, in a nutshell) and it took me 2 hours to catch up to the posts that are GCU driven. Lotsa new peeps here trying to decide.. be like NIKE...JUST DO IT!!!.. I am on my last week of Health assessment and will take a week off between the next class because I GOT A NEW JOB.. whoo hoo! anyways still get to work with my pediatric population and the new hospital is closer to home. Hi everyone, and I missed you all!
I am one of the new indecisive ones! Sounds like you have had tons going on. Glad to hear you can take a bit of time off of school when life gets hectic. Happy for you that you found a job that is actually a better situation for you!

I asked the Instr if I could use my Medical Director, since not only is he a physician, but he volunteers on his time off at the public health clinics in town. He is definitely in touch with the current pulse of the community, plus he loves to teach, so he was kinda perfect. I did mine on Healthy Weight Status, and two things he added that I forgot were: 1) People should always check with their physicians before embarking on a weight loss plan, and 2), since my target group happened to be an older crowd and some may be on Coumadin, be sure to educate about the specific vegetables high in Vit K they should limit.
Wow, I see! I can't believe that I didn't really understand this assignment before reading your posts. You saved my life :-):) Thank you a lot for your tips as well. My instructor said "submitting PowerPoint or Pamphlet is not mandatory", I guess there are no rubric for theses. I think it makes sense that flyer could be the best choice, I agree. I am in the end of my week 3! So yeah, I will be better to start right now. You are already beyond half through this program toward the end. Good for you!! I know you are in a busy class for your own assignments-It is not easy to look up the past classes. Thank you again!
(I secretly say this to myself all the time) :rotfl:One thing I forgot to mention, is that "Community Teaching Experience Form" has to be used twice - at least it did in my class. The 1st one was signed by the CH/PH provider who looked over my Assgn 1 Work Plan Proposal and provided feedback. I think the purpose of this was to show it to someone "in the know" and have them tell you if you're on the right track with content, etc., before you delve into creating the visual presentation itself (Assgn 2). He noticed a few important things on mine that he recommended I add, so I did.
The 2nd form was signed by the person who was giving me permission to GIVE the presentation amongst their crowd (a Bible study group, in my case). That person obviously wasn't a "provider" and didn't have any "credentials" like the form asks for, but oh well, they only gave us 1 form so it was what it was.
By the way, I never did "submit the Community Teaching Experience Form to the college Office of Field Experience @ GCU" to that school email address, I just submitted both along with my assignment to the instructor. I'm not telling YOU not to do it, I just didn't, and no one was the wiser.
YES, START NOW! I don't know what week you're in, but you just can't do all this in a week. You have to do the initial proposal, then schedule a time for someone to go over it with you, then incorporate their recommendations, then CREATE your presentation (ppt, flyer, poster), then schedule a time to GO to the place and DO it, THEN you get to run back home and start that crazy long PAPER! It took me 2 weeks to do all that
p.s. I opted for the flyer, it was easier to make than a ppt, easy to print out and take for individual handouts, and easy to upload to the assignment dropbox. The students who did posters had to get creative when it came time to submit them, the teacher finally said they could take a picture of it on their cellphone and upload the photo to the dropbox!
Oh, and I'm in Class 7 now, Ethics

You're right, there is no rubric for this piece, BUTTTT, there is an assignment dropbox for it (titled "Community Teaching Plan: Community Presentation"), so now I'm confused - is she saying you don't have to submit your visual-aid project/presentation? And if you don't, how do you get points/grade for that piece? She's just going to trust that you did it and award you 100 points? Man, I was in the wrong class!

Yes, GCU allows you to take 1-2 weeks off between classes if needed. I would not get into the habit of though because you get into your groove. I think I validated myself with the job, sick kiddo and moving, but if it was only one of those, I would keep trucking on. lol
Oh man, it's been a while since I was here. I am in Community and I am worried about W5 assignments. They are, in fact (it is three assignments for one week), confusing. If anyone here can explain Week 5 assignments to me, much appreciated. So the first one "community Teaching Experience" by itself is for 100 points? a teacher already said on the forum that Powerpoint or pamphlete is not mandatory, but just want to verify this. How did you prepare this community teaching papers? have you actually gone out for teaching? :-(
I am also finishing week 5 in community so we may be in same class. This class is so unclear and confusing. Instructor seems MIA when it comes to clarification. I did my comm teaching in a nursing home nearby.
