GPC Spring 2012

Published

Okay lets get it started all who applied to GPC 2012 come on in.

I took my CPR class this past Saturday, and the instructor was a GPC nursing alumni. She reassured me that GPC is one of the best nursing programs in GA because people graduate from there ready to be in the workforce. It definitely is a challenging program, but the weak ones will be weeded out and the strong will remain standing in the end. I think it's extremely important for us to build a strong support system with one another. I would love for everyone who starts (me included) to be there in the end! Just purchased my uniform and tools today. Need to get a start on my books and my physical. My husband's insurance will kick in on Dec 1st since he just started a new job (Praise God!) so I'm waiting til the 1st to start everything. I know I won't get my Hep B done in time, but I'll just have to sign that waiver.

Also, I live in Auburn, GA. Is there anyone in this area or close to this area that might want to carpool once classes start? I figured I'd ask and see if I could save a little gas. ;)

Can't wait to meet everyone on Dec 15th!! Happy Thanksgiving!

In an email this morning I was told that the committee meeting has not yet been scheduled. She did say that it would be late July or early August. I guess this means we'll hear something, at the earliest, in early August or, at the latest, mid to late August.

It's frustrating because I still have 3 pre-reqs for Mercer but certainly don't want to waste the money if I'm accepted at GPC. I'm so freaking tired of this pre-req/application deadline game. I just want to be in a program and done with this scheduling nightmare.

Hello! I'm new to this site, and trying to get some advice on how to complete my RN goal. So, I'm starting fresh with my pre-reqs and uncertain which school to take them at. I want to go the cheapest route for just the core and then hopefully get accepted into a program somewhere (GPC,Mercer, Emory) better. However, I'm curious to know where everyone else has taken there pre-reqs or is it better to do all your classes at one school??? Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi Engine. I took my pre-reqs at Georgia State, and got accepted into Emory and GPC. We decided to go with GPC because it's financially more attainable. I don't think it matters much where you do your pre-reqs. When I met with the nursing advisor at KSU she told me that a lot of their students do pre-reqs at Chattahoochee Tech. What matters the most is getting the best possible grades you can, regardless of where you attend. Just be sure that if you go to a tech school, you are certain that your classes will transfer. Good luck!

Who all is going to the nursing bootcamp?

My friend and I both signed up immediately. So stoked.

I wont be there. I was told that the bootcamp is similar to orientation, I wonder how true that is? We had our orientation this month. Is so excited but nervous.

It may be similar. I know at the boot camp they go over a LOT more stuff and Truro prepare you for studying and living as a nursing student. Did you get the brochure in the mail thy details everything? I'm sure you can get the info from a participant after its over.

Rockabilly have you ordered anything yet? I ordered the required books and 2 uniforms but I still need to get shoes and the other little supplies.

Have you signed up for the class yet? I havent yet, bc I still am finsihing up my math and A&P II class.

How are you feeling about things now?

Hi, everyone!

I've gotten everything completed except my medical form. I pay out of pocket for medical expenses and called the health department to see if I could have my form completed there, and they told me no. They said it would need to be completed by a physician. Then, I called Planned Parenthood since they offer low-cost physicals but I was told they were not offering those services at this time.

I have noticed that some of you have said that you were going to a health department. Should I just show up there to have it done? Maybe the lady that I spoke with gave me the wrong information.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! We are getting down to the wire and I've got to get this done!

I look forward to meeting all of you on the 15th!

Thanks!

CVS minute clinics will do a physical for around $60 I think. I already spoke with the NP at the one I use and she said they can do it. The titers can be done at the Marietta health department. I spoke with them already. So I'll go to Marietta for my titers and the tb test then go to minute clinic for the form signature. I've also done everything but order uniforms. I need to pop over for my drug test though. The wait was too long on Monday.

Getting SO excited!!!

Does anyone know when we will get our definite schedule for the first semester? I'm trying to figure out baby sitting. Or does anyone have an idea of when classes will be? Thanks!

My friend said our lecture is tues and wed 9-12 and our clinicals could be thurs/fri, fri/sat, or sat/sun either 7-3 or 3-11. I'm not sure where she found the info but she's usually right lol. As far as I know we don't choose our clinical times, we're at their mercy.
