GPC Spring 2012

U.S.A. Georgia

Okay lets get it started all who applied to GPC 2012 come on in.

I am stressing. For numerous reasons, my chicken pox titer results will not be back until Thursday afternoon after orientation, so my medical form will not be complete. Also, I thought I had my Hope all squared away, but apparently I thought wrong. I don't qualify for a federal loan bc i dont have enough eligible hrs left and was denied a Sallie Mae loan. I am starting to think I won't be able to attend this Spring. :( Does anyone know if they will count it against me that my form is still incomplete? And does anyone know of any loans where credit is not an issue? Thanks!

Hey I'm guessing they'll just keep a hold on your registration until they get your form. I think I read about another girl in a different class that had the same issue.

Also, I have a previous Bachelor's and a Master's and had met my maximum hours because of this. After I had a simultaneous heart attack and stroke, my friend pointed out that we can request extra hours of financial aid as nursing students. There's a financial aid appeal form that you fill out, then Ms. Creel writes you a letter and fills out your academic plan for you, then you hand it in to the nightmare that is financial aid (I've seriously never dealt with such an unorganized, uninformed department. It's like a government office.) Eventually (when they feel like it) they'll approve your appeal and you'll be eligible for federal loans. My friend went trough this over the summer.

Orientation is just getting you familiar with the program. They tell you what to expect, what you can and cannot do. How the grading system works, go over the hand book. It's sort of like a break down of the syllabus, and handbook. But the bootcamp I think went a little more in depth, well from what I hear anyway.

HTH, and any other questions you have let me know!!! Good luck future RN's

Oh also there will be a panel of second semester or third semester students that you can ask questions. So have your list of questions ready.

I do not have my medical form complete either, so I called Renee Creel. There is no penalty for not having it complete by tomorrow. They will just keep a hold on your registration until it is complete. They close for the holidays next week and reopen on January 3rd.

Also, I had reached the maximum number of hours for financial aid (90 hrs) so I appealed for more hours. They will allow you to appeal for up to 120, so I may end up having to pay a little out of pocket in our last semester. Act quickly because you know what a pain financial aid can be! I will say that I have had some VERY helpful counselors during this appeal process, that answer the first time I call and call me back quickly with answers if they don't have them immediately. The appeal form is on the GPC website. You will need to fill that out and have Renee Creel fill out the academic plan. I would go over to financial aid immediately following orientation tomorrow if I were you. Good luck!

We're all probably a little nervous (I know that I am!) but just remember that we're all in this together!

Ok, thanks ladies. :) or gents. ;) Also, are we dressing up tomorrow? Haha. Or is this casual?

Hi Ladies I just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year!

Getting more excited! Bring it on 2012!:yeah:

My husband and I have decided that it may be better off if I hold off on nursing school for another year or so. :( As tough as a decision that was, I'm trusting that it's what is best for my family right now. I have bought all the uniforms and tools we needed and I dont think I can return them since its past the 30 days stated on the receipt. Is anyone looking to buy or does anyone have any idea of what i can do with them? I will probably not attend gpc in the future bc of the distance.

Oh no slo, I'm so sorry to here this news. You worked so hard to get to this point but you must do what's best for your family. I wish you the best of luck and I'm sure you can get into program closer to your home.

Slo,

I am still looking to pick up some of the medical tools, some books, etc...but I have the uniforms and what not....feel free to e-mail me what you have and I may be willing to help you out with getting rid of some of it. Sorry to hear you won't be joining us. [email protected]
