Whoa, crazy. I'm terribly curious as to why they're doing away with the spring class. I wonder if they're raising the number of seats for the Fall class now.

A friend of mine heard from a current nursing student that GPC is working on offering a BSN. If that's the case, maybe they're changing things up a little to get ready?

Ohhh that would be awosome if they did! I hope they have it in place by the time I finish the bridge!

I think I'm going to order the "highly recommended" Test Success- Test-taking Techniques for Beginning Nursing Students. I'm still debating on the other suggested books. I have an older edition of Tabers Medical Dictionary, so I probably won't order that one. I wanted to download the Davis' Drug Guide for Nurses to my phone, but the iphone app is $49.99 and I can get the book on Amazon for $29. Still debating on the others; I wonder if previous editions would suffice? What do you think? Has anyone purchased any books yet?

Lewis we are totally thinking the same way. I'm not ordering a tabers bc I have one from 2003 but it still works. Then I wanted to download the app on my iPhone for the drug book but it's like $49.99 vs $29.00 for the book. I still thinking about it but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna buy the book. I think I will always get the test taking book to.

From a current third semester student-take one day at a time! You will face tough days but remember why you want to enter nursing. Congrats to all!

I have purchased all of mine between Ebay and Amazon. If you watch around the end of the semester you will find good prices and still have time to get them before classes start.

Hi there,

I know the excitement you guys are feeling, I was just in your shoes back in April. I hope I can answer some of your questions. First of all the bookstore on Clarkston campus may have some uniforms left over if you wanted to purchase from them I think they may be a little cheapier, but I am not sure if you get to try them on. I think they run a tad bit larger than the actual size...Well longer, lol! Books, I only purchased my fundamental book and I brought an older edition. I have not found much difference in the two, except for a couple of pages. Also, you will not be carrying these books around, you will only need them when you are at home studying, because on campus they have the latest edition in the lab which you can use. Uuuumm that about sums it up any questions feel free to ask. It may take me a minute to get back to you because I am ssssoooooo BUSY,lol! Other than that I will try to answer all other questions as quickly as possible because I know how it is to be checking everyday too see if you have a response yet. Good luck gang.

I haven't ordered my uniforms yet. I'm probably going to go by the schedule they sent with the packet and order one the first of December, then wait til I get my refund for Spring semester to order another one.

We're budgeting like mad because I've been a sahm/student since deciding to go back for nursing. We're having to space out all of these costs as much as possible right now.

I'd REALLY like to know about the cons of purchasing texts that aren't the latest edition. I made it through my pre-reqs with previous editions and saved HUNDREDS. I never saw any difference in information between my older edition and the new ones. I'm hoping it might be the case with these books. Maybe if there are any differences I could copy them from a classmate. Have y'all heard anything about older editions?

I hope so! I know that a previous class got ipod touches and ipads through a technology grant program partly for the purpose of having books loaded onto their devices.

It was one of the first pieces of advice I got, get the basic books on your phone for clinicals.

We did receive Ipod touches if you wanted one. It has been great so far and I know my clinical instructor does not mind us using them on the floor. Also, someone mention something about the Davis drug book, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT buy the book if you plan on having the ipod or if you have any smart phone because you will have an app call nursing central that you download from one of the schools computers and in that app you will get that book for free. Do not try to download at home because it will cost you $150.00. HTH

Awosome! Thank you so much!

How is your first semester going?

Is going great, the instructors are wonderful and really want you to succeed. The only thing that has had my panties in a bunch, lol was that first check off. I failed my first attempt and had to do a second attempt and my anxiety level hit the roof, other than that it is great!!!!

Hi adorable, thank you for all the advice! Its very helpful!

there's so much to buy for uniforms and books and gadgets we need for class...

I was in the Clarkston bookstore, and saw many stethescopes that ranged from $19 to over $100. I was going to get one somewhere in the middle but have you noticed anyone with the cheaper ones, and are they any good?

Also we need to get a student name badge. Where do we order those? Does it have to have GPC on it?

Sorry if these seem like silly questions.

At this point no question is silly, lol! I brought my stethescope from the bookstore I think it was about $50 and I also bought my blood pressure cuff from there and it was I think about $30. My stethescope works well for me, I hate that while doing check-offs we have to use the dual stet. provided by them, but hey that's a whole nother story, lol. Your student name badge comes from Meridy's it cost $6 I think, and I ordered two. That way I keep one in my car just in case I wash my uniform and forget to put my main one on, I will always have one to run back and get.
