GPC Spring 2016 Graduates

Published

Here is a place that we could start discussing the next part of our journey in nursing school.

Has anyone read the book they suggested in our acceptance letters? I bought it off amazon and I am excited to read it!!!

What's so bad?

The teachers keep changing and they cannot write test questions to save their lives. They tell you they are their for you. And some are. But others should not be in teaching.

Gotcha

First of all, no nursing program is perfect. Believe me, I have friends in other local nursing programs and GPC is great compaired to some others. No job is perfect either! I feel sorry for negative people who expect to have everything handed to them and cannot adapt to change. This shows lack of maturity, life experiences, and coping skills; not to mention the poor grammer and punctuation of your post. You have to take accountability for your own learning. After all, it's all about passing NCLEX in the end, right? Since the NCLEX increased in difficulty it only makes sense they increased the difficulty of the program for our own success. Please try not to pass your negativity to the others who are beginning the program.

FYI guys, I also found out they will not be offering the Kaiser insurance anymore. Not sure what, if any, they will be offering. Sorry:-(

Thanks for the cheer.

I would still go to gpc again. Loved the price. Wish I had done some more research before going on the culture and atmosphere of the school. I would of been better prepared for my first semester. I was shocked by how some ( notice how I say some) of the teachers were comically cruel. By second semester I had adapted.

Mind sharing what difficulties you may have had during your first semester and how you have adapted since?

Would love to hear! Thanks.

Most good instructors have left, the remaining ones (with a few exceptions) don't give a crap about students. Very disorganized, most seniors have been failing two years in a row, not because of the students, but because the instructors teach topics they know nothing about, and put questions on the exams about stuff they never covered in class.

Specializes in Psychiatry.

If they have been failing for 2 years in a row, how are they still in the program? Also, just because it isn't covered in class does not mean you shouldn't be learning it. It's simply not possible for teachers to cover every single thing, there's not enough time. Sounds like people need to take responsibility for their own learning.

I should rephrase, the senior classes (2 different classes) and seems like you have not been in that program. I graduated, I know what I'm talking about. People DID take responsibility for their own learning, even straight A students like myself were failing. Again, I know what Im talking about because I was in that program and SUCCESSFULLY completed it.

Did you/most of your classmates pass the NCLEX on your first try? Also, how was employment after graduation?

Just wanted to let everyone know that GPC has put their fall schedule up...Fundamentals is T/W from 9-1 with the first week being a "frontload" and meeting T/W from 9-3...it also says that clinical possibilities will be th, fr, sa, or su either from 7-3 or 3-11. I know this doesn't cover things like labs and other extras, or give a definite clinical time, but at least it gives us an idea! I know I have to arrange for childcare so this is a huge help:) Hope everyone is enjoying summer!

To be fair to guyjincj I've heard other people say that about GPC. I know someone who recently graduated from that program and although that person passed NCLEX 1st try, had stellar grades, and was able to get a residency in an ICU unit she felt as though she was not as well prepared as her counterparts. She went to GPC because of the cost and despite their approach, they do get a good a number of RN's licensed.

I think sometimes it's important to know this information so you can go in mentally prepared to deal w/ the challenges. Nursing school is hard wherever you go and it kind of sucks when you don't have support from faculty. But as with everything...these experiences are very subjective.

Are we really talking about NCLEX already? One step at the time people. We have enough to stress about. Stay positive. Here is a tip that works through out history and never failed me: Work hard in and out of class and you will succeed.
