Got bad news

Concentrate on the goal which is to be an RN. There are plenty of good schools out there. I know you want to get into a good school, and the same school as your sister perhaps. I'm an RN making nearly $30.00/hr with a degree from a community college. What matters is NCLEX and the RN behind your name.

I know you're disappointed, but truly, it doesn't color who you are, ok? Your strengths may lie in other amazing areas, yet to be discovered. So take heart and SHINE !!! :) Don't be too hard on yourself... and DON'T compare yourself to your twin... you are still two INDIVIDUAL and therefore different people.

Try to not be so down on yourself. If you are determined and work had you will be able to obtain your goals...just a little story:

I have four brothers.. but this is about two of them... one has been "gifted" his whole life but lazy, lazy, lazy. He always was in honors classes but never worked very hard. He got an extremely high score on the SATS and so he was accepted to a prestigous school. He went to college and did a whole lot of nothing there and ended up on academic probation. My parents refused to pay anymore b/c he is not working up to his potential and so he is now still living at home still being a bum... (I love my brother but he is right now being EXTREMELY LAZY and needs a dose of reality)

My other brother has always had trouble w/ school. He was not in college prep classes and had to work really hard just to make it through high school. He graduated with decent grades though and started at a community college.... where he also worked really hard. He is now in the XRAY tech program there and will be graduating soon from it.

Moral of the story is to work hard at keep focus and you will obtain your goals.... best of luck to you

Ok here's the scoop. I did miserable in high school. I got kicked out of college (really) with a 1.69 GPA.

I am an RN. I make > $40K a year part time just from my nursing job.

I undrstand at your age every thing is all or nothing. You are threatened with things being put "on your permanent record" etc. You may also have teacher and counselors who really have no clue what you are capable of, what you need in the way of education, etc, etc.

When I started high school I had a counselor who said that I could not possible get into nursing school because his daughter who "was the cream of the crop" could not get in, so I was not permitted to take the classes I needed.

Some of the very worst advice I and others have received was from so called educational experts when in high school.

My advice to you is take what you are told with a grain of salt. YOU CAN BE A NURSE. And a very good one. Do your best in what ever program in school in which you find yourself. If you do that you will have a much easier time than I did.

High school does not determine the rest of your life. I know it seems like the most important thing right now, but it's not.

I DROPPED OUT of highschool and got my GED 2 years later. I then waited another 8 years to go to college. Guess what-I got right into a 4 year school-I didn't even have to start out in a technical college. Even if I did have to go to a community college it wouldn't have mattered, because there are so many different ways you can take to become a nurse.

I finished up all my pre-requisites for my BSN with a 4.0-straight A's! I am now attending one of the best schools in the state and I am doing very well.

If I can do it, anyone can-If they really want to.

If this is something you really want to do, don't let anyone hold you back.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Dont be upset,, one year,, do your best and your teachers will slide you up to college bound courses next year. My daughter wasnt in any college prep either (thats another story) but has had teachers put her in 3 college prep for next year. Work hard, get the grades up to consistent A,B levels and they may slip you into a couple for next year. College prep classes arent necessary to get the RN degree, just hard work.

Any chance you can go to the counselor and ask for a schedule change? If your parents are supportive, take one of them w/you.

And at least you'll know more about the process than you know now, AND you will have learned a lesson in assertiveness.

You sound EXACTLEY like me when I was your age. The advice everyone is giving you is good. I got a C in an Algebra class my sophomore year of highschool, and dropped out because of it. Why? It ruined my 4.0, and I was convinced that I ouldn't be able to get into the college I wanted to get into. I thought, "if I can't do what I want to do, I'm not going to do anything". Now, I'm not saying that you're going to do the same, but at least know that just because you didn't get into the college prep classes doesn't mean you won't get into a good school. You've got 4 years to establish your GPA, do all the extracurriculars, and prepare for the SAT/ACT's.

The best thing you can do is try not to be so hard on yourself. It's OKAY to not be perfect. It took me 8 years to figure that out, as I'm finally going back to school. (got my GED, took a few classes at a community college to establish a GPA, and then transferred to a university).

You said it, Tweety! I am also the product of a community college. In my area, when established nurses at a hospital hear that a new hire is from our AD program, they shout HOORAY! It seems that our AD program nurses are better at their "skills and assessments" than our BSN nurses.

To the high school student- PERSEVERE! Don't sweat not getting into college prep classes right now. Enjoy your high school years and do your very best.

Today I got my form for high school about what classes me and my identicaltwin got put in and I didnt make any collegenprep classes:crying2: . I am so disappointed in myself. I thought I would be in at least one college prep class but im not. I guess theres always 10th grade. Now ive ruined my chance to get into the college I want. I blew it.

Who made you believe your chances of college are ruined? As you get older and have the work experience behind you, employers don't care if you graduated from Harvard or a community college. As long as you have RN after your name, and you have not been convicted of a felony...you're in. I went from high school to getting married and to becoming a stay at home mom for almost twelve years. Now I am 38 years old and just received my ADN-RN in Dec '03. I started my first job this March. I'll be making $21.58/hr, get to make my own schedule, and have the best of both worlds! Although, my community college ADN-RN doesn't impress many, it sure impresses me. It also sure impressed my twelve year old when I paid his camp fee in full and in cash. Don't let anybody tell you, your chance is over, including yourself. It's not over, until you believe it's over.

Oh Honey;

You are young yet!! Just think positive about the future. You can do anything you REALLY want to do.All the other posters here have given you good advise; You have so many years to make it happen; Just Believe in yourself!!
