WOW!! You mean they offer college classes in HIGH SCHOOL?!!

I graduated in 1979, in a class of 2 [two]. I had no plans for going to college. I was going to be a stay at home mom. I had NO IDEA that normal people could go to college. I thought it was for rich kids.

I got married and divorced and in 1985 went to ISU. I was SCARED to death!! There were over 200 people in my classes!! My total high school consisted of 5 people, in grades K-12.

I dropped out and transferred to VU in the summer of 1988. I had been married for 3 yrs and had a daughter by the time I went back to school.

I graduated in the Spring of 1990, the only female in my degree. [Automotive Technology, a fancy name for an auto mechanic. yes, I can work on cars.]

I was also pregnant with my first son. I was a SAHM for 6 yrs. and have 4 children.

I returned to school [VU] in the Fall of 2001. I had to take ALGEBRA and CHEMISTRY. Horrors!! I had NEVER had either one of those subjects. Yet, with all my lousy background, and my total lack of education, I was able to get into the nursing program and got an A in my OB class!! I start my MED/SURG rotation Tuesday.

Bottom line here is this: If I can do it, ANYONE can do it!! Good luck and don't be so hard on yourself!!

Hon, don't give up. It's definitely not the end of the world... not anywhere near!

College prep classes are good to have, but not required. Work hard in 9th grade, and see about next year. It's DEFINITELY not lost.

I do hate it when some HS teachers feel they have absolute control over your life, who actually say, "You'll never become a [insert desired field here]" while fawning over their favorite who don't have the brains you do. That's happened to me and it took a long time to get over. :angryfire

Work hard, show 'em what you're made of. Even if you don't get the classes you like, it doesn't mean that you won't get into nursing school.

Hi Future,

If I could give my 2 cents:

I did *horrible* in high school. I think I graduated with a 2.1--I didn’t think I was going to graduate...I didn't even WANT to GO (I had to b/c my family made me...otherwise I would have opted to take a trip to SF or something). I went to my CC right after high school, b/c I knew that I didn't want to just jump into the working field...I wanted something more. My first semester there I earned a 3.3! I didn’t realize that I could actually get *good* grades. Now, I am at UCLA (I transferred form my CC in Fall '02 and I am graduating this June) and doing great.

My point in telling you this is this:

Like someone said before on this thread, I remember thinking that it was all black or white and that high school was everything. But, looking back (as I think you might too, if you don’t already know this) is really doesn't "mean" anything. You might be one of those people that *LOVE* high school etc....and that's great. However, life goes on outside of high school. You meet good friends (hopefully) that you will keep for life, but high school (IMO) is nothing compared to college. I think you learn and grow SO much MORE in college than in HS. Again, this is all from my exp. and my opinion, but I really think that you will be just fine. I took one AP/college prep history class in high school and got a C. Looking back...it means nothing. I am a Psych major and I am minoring in History. In my minor, I have (almost) straight A's (got a B+ in one class). I really think high school is NOT at ALL indicative of your ability. It might seem like it now, but I think you will realize differently later.

Again...just my 2 cents.

Good luck, sweetheart! :)
