Going rate for New grad in S. Cali (OC)?

Published

Hi everyone,

I would like to know what is the expected hourly rate for a new grad, specifically in Orange County where I expect to work. I have looked at many hospitals in the area website, but they do not post an expected salary. I'm just curious about what is being offered and if its competitive.

Thanks

dannibee,

Do you know places that are hiring in the Sacramento valley? I recently moved here from San Diego because my husband is stationed at Beale AFB. I've been looking and looking, but nothing so far! The only call I got was for a staffing company to work at flu clinic giving vaccines. Thanks!

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I would suggest looking at the various Catholic Healthcare West hospitals in the Sacramento area. I've seen them hire quite a few new grads. Good luck to you.

Thank you so much Dannibee!

FIND A JOB FIRST BEFORE MOVING!!!

The job market in California is very very VERY tough right now.

Because it is soooo difficult to get a job, I looked elsewhere and now from beautiful San Diego, I have to go to Baltimore MD! I have to leave everything i've known and move to a place I know nothing about. However, I am very grateful that I the opportunity to start a great program and in critical care. Goodbye San Diego, Goodbye CALIFORNIA!

Move to get your experience then you can come back to Cali! Good luck with everything Kcampos. :)

I just started a new grad job in San Diego and it is $30.00. The pay is higher in a "closed union shop" like Kaiser. I have my ADN and got a job cause I have been a CNA at this hopital longer than many of you have been alive!! Funny but true. The trend is to higher BSN so while you wait for job further your ed. FYI I am a >50 yr old, work my boottie off and graduated, keep my marriage intact, payed for my 22 yr old college fees and just took boards 1/20 and got 202 questions. Did the Pearson "trick" and got the message "Our records indicate you have recently scheduled this exam. Please contact member board for further assistance. Another registration can not be made" which according to "trick" I passed. My # has not popped up on boards web site, they furlough on Fridays in CA. Hang in there, I wanted to vomit and poop at same time after the exam.

Congratulations NewRN2010 for your new position. I am a 47 years old RN with ADN too with a bachelors in science, I graduated in Dec 2007, took NCLEX in July 2008. I have looking for a job as soon as I graduated from a SD CC, but I didn't have any luck, I had to pay my bills and since I was working in public health while I was attending to the nursing school the local public health department offered me a job as a PHN, I started working as a PHN in Nov 2009. I like my job but I miss to work in the clinical setting.

As soon as I graduated I 've applied for every local new grad program, but no luck. Time passed fast and suddenly it was more than a year that I graduated so I was told by nurse recruiters that I was not longer a new grad and all of the jobs require at least 1 year of experience in the job that you are applying for. While looking for a job in any hospital I was taking several certifications ACLS, NRP, Fetal monitoring, PALS (scheduled) trying to be ready for the GREAT opportuniy, but nothing so far, no even a call for an interview.

I would like to hear any advice from somebody in this forum. What should I do in order to put my foot at the door to get a RN entry level position in a hospital? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Wow... sorry to hear about your situation. Reading your post is actually making really worried  I graduated in May 2009 in Texas. I relocated here in SD the same month with my husband who is in the Navy and we also had our first child April 2009. I was pregnant the last year of nursing school!! I have not worked since graduating. I have been taking care of my daughter and nieces since moving out here and now I am ready to look for a job. I am very worried that I will not get hired by anyone. I will take even take a small clinic job. I feel like taking time off to spend time with my baby was not such a great idea now. Anyway, Hope things turn up for you!!

Hi I am curious if any of the New Grad Rns that were former LVNs are having the same problems getting a job as a new graduate since they have been nurses prior?

if they are previously working as LVNs, they are most likely in-house employees already and i think the HR prefers them over external employees. :( i believe their chances are bigger compared to New Grads because they already have their foot at the door, with networking and all.
