Going rate for New grad in S. Cali (OC)?

Published

Hi everyone,

I would like to know what is the expected hourly rate for a new grad, specifically in Orange County where I expect to work. I have looked at many hospitals in the area website, but they do not post an expected salary. I'm just curious about what is being offered and if its competitive.

Thanks

27-29 before night shift differential

its pretty crappy considering the hiiiiigh cost of living

Good Luck with the job search LatanyaMay2006!!

I am a new grad and unless you have a parent on the board of directors or you schmooze with a Nurse Manager, you will have a hard time finding a job in a hospital right off the bat. This is going to have heads turning, but I am going to say it anyway; I have noticed that at certain hospitals in San Diego (Sharp Memorial), which is south of O.C, the nurses are younger and have a "California quality" to their appearance. This has been my experience; I will only speak for myself. Yet a number of older, more experienced nurses have noticed this trend as well. I work as a Nursing Assistant at Sharp HealthCare. Nothing bad against young nurses; it's just an observation.

I am lucky in that I already have a job lined up. I signed a contract with a local hospital 2 years ago. At the time I thought I was making the wrong move, but now I'm very happy that I did since new grad jobs are sporifice.

Lucky and Blessed, LatanyaMay2006!!! Good Luck on your move!!!! I moved to Cali from New Orleans... WWWWooooooooWWWW!!!

FIND A JOB FIRST BEFORE MOVING!!!

The job market in California is very very VERY tough right now. Here in AZ we are having a flood of new grads from Cali come to AZ and many of the other South Western states because of the lack of jobs. The only thing missing from the California exodus is Charlton Heston.

Plus the pay is eh...27-29 is what you can expect for pay for example in AZ but we have a fraction of the cost of living. I was offered a job in San Diego at a hospital for $26hr but took a job in AZ at a LTC/Rehab for $29hr. $26hr in Cali is like minimum wage lol.

Bug Out, your funny!!!!!:rotfl:

Funny , yet accurate. I actually have a couple of classmates that are moving to AZ from San Diego. Poor AZ!!! As a new grad, really hurts to know how hard itis to get a job. I am going to try corrections; I have 4 kids and can not wait for the economy to pick up.

Wow that's not very high at all. I live in the Sacramento area and new grads get paid way more than that and our cost of living is lower. What's wrong with this picture???

Its called Capitalism.

Who wants to live in Sacramento?

For every one RN in So Cal who says, "Ewww, low pay." there are 142 others to replace.

I do actually. And apparently a lot of others do also because new grads have a tough time getting a job out here. Nurses get paid very well here and this is a pretty decent city to live in. No complaints here by any means. :)

dannibee,

Do you know places that are hiring in the Sacramento valley? I recently moved here from San Diego because my husband is stationed at Beale AFB. I've been looking and looking, but nothing so far! The only call I got was for a staffing company to work at flu clinic giving vaccines. Thanks!
