  1. Hi All I am a new grad in L&D and 1 month on my own after 6 wk of classes and 6 wks my preceptor. I am getting more accurate w/ dilation (off usually around 5-9 by 1 cm) but the effacement is a big huh? any tips? Please start from scratch maybe it is a liitle thing I missed earier. Everyone says it will come but if my pt is on pitocin my SVE must be accurate to determine cervical change q 2hrs.Thanks for helping us newbies
  2. Yes! Especially because you have so much bedside nursing expirience. I am 51 just graduated in Dec., took the boards, passed and now am in a new grad orientation in Labor and Delivery. The things that give me an edge over others is invaluable. Being in the environment before makes you comfortable during clinicals. The bedside is familar, you are just adding to what you have been doing all along. The interaction with patients and family is smooth because you you already do that. It is worth getting your degree. I bet you have worked hard all these years as a LVN/LPN so go for it and earn the money you deserve. You CAN do it!!!!!! It feels so good to acomplise this as an "adult learner":clown:
  3. I think we all bring with us a walk in life that is as varied as we are. Lets just strive to be the best nurses for our patients, CNAs are valuable as well as LVNs. It is the expirience that you bring to the bedside that makes the differnace, couple that with a great attitude and your awesome. Lets not pick at each other. There is a place for us all, lets support the move for all of us to be the best we can, at wahtever we do:)
  4. :yeah::yeah: It works, it took a week for CA to post my lisence #, and the "trick" works, Thank You Jesus!!!!!
  5. Hi, I took boards in CA 1/20, I heard they furlough on Fridays. When I search the BRN site for permanent license verification my name comes back with "no record returned". I have done the Pearsonvue "trick" and I get the "good" message, that has allowed me to sleep. I am really wondering. Why is it taking SOOO long?. I heard they post with in 24 hours. Any one know the scoop? Thanks
  6. I am only a few shifts into this but, while I was doing the exam the RN asked me questions about what I was feeling so WHILE MY FINGERS WERE STILL IN THERE my brain registered what I was feeling and what she was saying. I have also been told by midwife from UK to have an RN hold my hand on top of hers while doing exam (pt has epidural mind you). I hear it takes practice but it will come, you must do them over and over to get good. Like any other skill.:)
  7. We use 18g but we also use lidocaine before start.
  8. just started a new grad job in San Diego and it is $30.00. The pay is higher in a "closed union shop" like Kaiser. I have my ADN and got a job cause I have been a CNA at this hopital longer than many of you have been alive!! Funny but true. The trend is to higher BSN so while you wait for job further your ed. FYI I am a >50 yr old, work my boottie off and graduated, keep my marriage intact, payed for my 22 yr old college fees and just took boards 1/20 and got 202 questions. Did the Pearson "trick" and got the message "Our records indicate you have recently scheduled this exam. Please contact member board for further assistance. Another registration can not be made" which according to "trick" I passed:yeah:. My # has not popped up on boards web site, they furlough on Fridays in CA. Hang in there, I wanted to vomit and poop at same time after the exam.

  10. I forgot: the evolve that is linked to our text book REALLY is helpful. There is an awesome tutorial on Fluid and Elyte balance.
  11. I am not there yet, not until the fall. I will say in my program (a ADA program-a JC in CA) it was going to be manditory to pass and graduate. The school had to change that, too many people failed. I can't address it for you but I have been hearing Saunders is better.
  12. I graduate in Dec.,almost everyione in my class reviews with the Saunders. The Hesi is good for review but the Saunders is more comprehensive. I LOVE the disk that comes w/ the Saunders. You can practice questions and get rationale right after. I really like it when your burnt out studing. It is excellent. Good luck
  13. I am 50 and just finsihed my first year in a community college ADN program. The LPN/LVNs do not work in the hospital I work in. It is worth it to go ahead and get your RN. But in San Diego the wait list for the 2 yr ADA is 3-4 years. You could finish your LPN and take a step -up program and get your RN for only I more year. Get you sciences done, but not too early they expire. You can do it, but I would recommned not working full time and have great support at home to help you. You can do it!!!!
  14. Hi, Here in San Diego for open shop union facilities new grads start at about $30.00. The closed union shop facilities start higher. The noc shift diff is $4.00. I am a CNA while in school and the top of my pay scale is $17.53
