go to a third world or graduate early, what would you do?

OK, I know it is ultimately my decision, but I am trying to weight the odds. My school recently offered the option to graduate a semester early and take classes in the summer. This means I could start working earlier, start applying to midwifery schools earlier....I would have my BSN this time next year instead of a year and a half. Also being offered in the summer is to earn 7 units spending 6-7 weeks in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore with my OB instructor working with poor pregnant women under a temporary nursing lisence......It just stinks that these are being offered at the same time! What would you do?

I would take the trip- sounds like the chance of a lifetime- school will always be there, but opportunities like that won't.

*** This is a no-brainer. Go to Kuala Lampur and Singapore. There will be plenty of time to go to MW school and work. You will learn things about the world and about yourself that are far more valuable than another six months of work here. You will regret it the rest of your life if you don't go.

I would take the trip. I would love to take a trip out of the country but it is hard with small children. I wouldn't even have to think about it. And plus it will look good on your resume.

I would take the trip no question! Honestly life doesn't always go the way we plan so I try to take it one day at a time. If there is an opportunity in front of me that I might not have again in the future I'd take it. Especially considering it will not delay your graduation. Even though it seems that traveling might be available at a later time your circumstances may have changed by then so i'd go now.

My sisters boyfriend is Chinese Malaysian and i have friends from

Singapore and i didn't think either place were classed as third world anymore?

I would take the trip. You already had a graduation date when you applied to the school and even though they've offered the additional classes you're schedule has always been the original garduation date. The trip would be a chance to learn things in a different country that you would never have experience with here. Plus it will not only look good to the mid wife school but would also look good on your resume. It's a honor to have your OB instructor offer this to you. If you let this go you may not have another chance to do this because life could get in the way.

Take the experience!!!! This is an incredible learning opportunity--to learn about other people/cultures and from that you will learn more about yourself. Once you have little kiddos you will not be able to do that~and they can come upon you quick ;) Possible life altering experience VS graduating 6 months early? Easy squeezy :)

I would definitly go and finish school later. The experience you will get will be unmatched!! Let us know what you decide and good luck!!!!!

You'd still graduate in the same time if you took this trip. So to me, it would make more sense to take the trip, PUT IT ON YOUR MIDWIFE SCHOOL RESUME :) and graduate with your class. I'm no admissions counselor but it would certainly seem to give you an advantage over the other applicants.

Best of luck! Keep us posted here on your travels.

OMG!!! Take the trip. I only wish I had an opportunity so great!:wink2:

in my opinion i would take the travel opportunity to help pregnant women in need.it is a great opportunity and im sure you wouldnt be offered this if your instructor didnt think you would benefit from this experiance.just think in the real world how often is it that a nurse actually has a life changing effect on someone?nurses are so overworked and busy they often forget why they became a nurse in the first place.go for it!!!!! think of it like this- you will get to experiance the joys of being a nurse-you will help those in need-you will finish your program when you get back-and this looks great on a resume.good luck in your decision!!!!!!!
