Is it just me, But don't you hate when your trying to give report on shift change & you have that one nurse that have to do everything before they receive report. I get highly upset I be wanting to say why you didn't do all that before you got on the unit. Especially if you had a rough day on a 12 hr shift. Ughhhhhhhhh

Nothing wrong with saying, "Let's get started. I'm off in x minutes."

Yes. As someone who works nights, usually I'm pretty exhausted by the morning when the day shift nurses come in.
Most of the time I am patient, but if nurses are just getting together talking about their hot date last week, or gossiping, I just cheerfully say with a smile "ready to get started"? Or, "which of my patients do you have"? That usually does the trick...

I don't really understand this post, what are the nurses doing that is upsetting you?
Probably highlighting their report sheets in various colors and inks, fixing their hair in the bathroom mirror, chatting with another nurse, going around saying hi to the patients even though we'll do the same thing during report, eating breakfast in the break room, etc, etc.

Are you talking about things like preparing for the shift... getting papers and supplies ready? If so, some nurses like to do that beforehand because once you give report and see the patients, A LOT of things can come up and you aren't even prepared.

Drives me nuts! Some nurses had the gall to punch in and run down to the cafeteria to grab breakfast and coffee then stroll back up 15minutes into their shift. Totally unprofessional.

Nothing wrong with saying "Let's get started. I'm off in x minutes." [/quote']I've actually told someone "It's 0655. You have five minutes for report." What gets me is the worst offenders would be the first to whine if I did that to them.

I was always ready to take report @ 7 on the dot with smile and pen in hand.
Any thing less is unprofessional.
Frequent offenders need to be reported to management.

Checking the email, making several trips to the locker, BSing with everyone along the way. And of course it's when I have somewhere to be and I spent extra effort to get my crap done on time for once

I am all for preparing for a shift but get there early and do that on your own time.

I'm starting to see why my hospital mandates that nurses working a 7 to 7 shift clock in at 15 til and don't leave til 15 after. So your shift is actually 6:45-7:15, no matter whether it's a-p or p-a. You still have nurses jonesing to rev out of there at 7 or 8 minutes past 7, but being there 15 minutes early is non-negotiable -- management is serious and will fire nurses for being late to be early.
