Is it just me, But don't you hate when your trying to give report on shift change & you have that one nurse that have to do everything before they receive report. I get highly upset I be wanting to say why you didn't do all that before you got on the unit. Especially if you had a rough day on a 12 hr shift. Ughhhhhhhhh
Are you talking about things like preparing for the shift... getting papers and supplies ready? If so some nurses like to do that beforehand because once you give report and see the patients, A LOT of things can come up and you aren't even prepared.[/quote']I think the issue is when a nurse consistently arrives 5+ minutes late or even right on time and then spends 10+ minutes saying hi, putting their stuff away, organizing their report sheet, etc. If you like to do these things then please come in a few minutes early so you are ready to work/get report when your shift starts.
If it is preparing for the shift, no big deal. I spend 5 min getting my report together, stapling my notes together so that I can take notes and be organized. But I also get there at 620 and we don't clock in til at least 640 so I check email and get organized during that time. Just chit chatting and all that, no way! Granted I was ordering Girl Scout cookies for another staff member the other day so there ya go!

Just starting giving report, if they aren't listening then that's their problem (which could then become the patient's problem which is why they shouldn't have a choice but to listen). I find I sometimes have to resort to snapping my fingers or whistling to get their attention as though they are a kindergartner.
