Gift for Nurse

Nurses General Nursing

I have a friend who just got accepted into the nursing program at the college she goes to down in Florida. I'll be attending her "capping ceremony" this fall, which is their formal recognition into the program, and I really want to get her a special, meaningful gift. I've done a little research, but I haven't gotten very far. Are there any types of gifts that are traditional given at an occasion like this... pendants, etc. I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

Something NOT nursing related. A night out, a massage, a spa day, anything like that.

Just a thought, but I'd avoid any nursing equipment or name tags just yet: she's brand new into the program, and you probably don't know if they have specific requirements for those things. For instance, our name badges had to come from one source, and one format only. No variances allowed.

As for the equipment, she might be particular about getting her own, and might have specific guidelines there as well.

If you don't mind doing it, a gift certificate to a nursing catalogue is very nice, as is something totally NOT nursing related, as ann just said. A night out with the girls, for instance. Treat her totally to dinner, a movie, drinks. Free time is precious! :)

Starbucks gift cert if she lives near one.

yep... I have done the spa packages, nice coffee machines that grind fresh beans, the littman stephoscopes seem to have been a trade mark for me being a cardiac nurse. I've done it as mile stones, graduation gift, retirement presents, showers.

Things we need: Calculators, sissors, PDA, Subcriptions to good journals, time with our families (yearly passes to Busch gardens or Disney if you live like me in Central Florida), Bibles or devotionals if she is religious (God knows we need prayers in what we do).

Maybe a little note saying that you will be there for her, a prayer every day for her... sometimes the emotional support is more meaningful than the bigger financial gift.

Or if your a great friend... Do a day at the spa, a yearly pass to Busch gardens and a promise to pray for her every day while sending her that prayer on the PDA you just bought her!

Living with a nursing student - I vote for the gift of relaxation!

The spa day or even movie tickets & a dinner gift card could be a real welcome to their non-stop days of study & stress.

Or, maybe a journal to record "The Life of A Nursing Student." She could make it into a book someday. We all have those crazy stories from school.

I would have loved a gift certificate for a massage or even a really nice day planner.

A gift certificate to a store that sells good underwear. Some of the students need to remember there are several meanings to the word support, comfort, and coverage.

Thanks for my "laugh of the day"! This brought back such a terribly funny visual from my nursing school days.
