Hey everybody,
I have a friend who is going into nursing next year and I wanted to get her a nice gift for her graduation / birthday, both of which are coming up in June. I've found some really neat gifts like pins and t-shirts and the like, but I think I want something that will be more useful. She'd probably appreciate the gift more if it were some sort of book that could help her through school with important things to remember or study or anything like that that will come in handy for many years. I don't, however, know of any good books and I don't want to buy something that's really not very good or useful, since I don't have any experience in nursing (I'm a math major). I thought of a stethoscope, but as I seem to understand it, getting your first stethoscope is a pretty big deal, and so I don't feel like it's my place to be entering that area. Any ideas?

I bought a book on care plans when I was in school, that I loved..... care plans are a requirement, and not always easy to do.
Congratulations to both of you....

A homemade gift certificate for a "Girls Weekend Away" that she can redeem sometime in the middle of the semester when things get crazy.

A uniform shop or bookstore gift certificate. She can use it for whatever she's decided she needs most.
I like the "Girl's Weekend" gift certificate too. An inexpensive "relaxation" basket with bubble bath, candle, favorite coffee/tea, chocolate or sweet treat, paperback novel, etc. might be nice too.

I love the "girl's weekend", but I don't know anyone in nursing school who has been able to manage a weekend away during the school year.
Books are nice, but be careful because her course will probably require certain editions.
I don't know how much you want to spend, but a stethoscope is a nice gift that will certainly be used.

i really like the weekend idea, too, as well as the gift card to the school bookstore. a giftcard to staples or best buy would be nice, too. i go through a lot of printer ink and paper.
if your friend has children, you could give her homemade coupons for babysitting provided by you. i know it helps me when my sister takes my son for a couple hours so i can do homework.
you are a really good friend.

My best friend from high school (who's graduating LPN school in a few weeks) bought me a nursing jacket (is that what they're called? Those long-sleeved sweater-like-but-not-sweaters with the cuffed arms and no collar) that was personalized. Had my name embroidered on it with RN after it. I love it! Only bummer is that it's white, and I've already accumulated several coffee stains on it!
