Gift for a friend going into nursing?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hey everybody,

I have a friend who is going into nursing next year and I wanted to get her a nice gift for her graduation / birthday, both of which are coming up in June. I've found some really neat gifts like pins and t-shirts and the like, but I think I want something that will be more useful. She'd probably appreciate the gift more if it were some sort of book that could help her through school with important things to remember or study or anything like that that will come in handy for many years. I don't, however, know of any good books and I don't want to buy something that's really not very good or useful, since I don't have any experience in nursing (I'm a math major). I thought of a stethoscope, but as I seem to understand it, getting your first stethoscope is a pretty big deal, and so I don't feel like it's my place to be entering that area. Any ideas?

A homemade gift certificate for a "Girls Weekend Away" that she can redeem sometime in the middle of the semester when things get crazy.

Sounds like a great idea! I just have to become a girl for that to happen :)

haha, I didn't sound THAT feminine, did I? I thought my Math major comment would give it away.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions - I really like the magazine and gift certificate ideas. I'll give it some more thought, but I have plenty of good suggestions here, thanks!

Bah then let it be a friends weekend away.

I was actually thinking of that, it was still a really good idea. I was only giving you a hard time :wink2:

I have one of those clipboards and absolutely love it. If I'm calculating I/O's on a drip it's easy to look down and punch in numbers.

Otherwise I like the idea of a basketful of tylenol and stuff. I would also include a travel pack of kleenex and dayquil as a head cold won't keep anyone from going to lecture.

These are all such great ideas!

When I first started NS, I bought a NCLEX-RN review, and I still use it to supplement my studies. It helps a lot when studying for quizzes and exams. Barnes & Noble has a lot of those types of books. Go with Saunders, it's the best!

Books are a great idea, but the assigned readings are enough for anyone......

They make spiral bound flashcards that are available at any major bookstore -- the more general ones would be better, like pharmacology, fundamentals, etc.....these are great and travel well.

I would have to say a gift cert. for a massage or some other relaxing experience. (That's what I wanted)

you're a great friend:redbeathe -- she'll need that more than anything as she gets through school.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I think I'm going to end up making a "nursing basket" type of thing and combine some ideas since it's for her birthday and graduation. I'm glad I asked you guys!
