Gift for Clinical Instructor

Published

I need some good ideas for this coming week. It happens to be our last week of clinicals and also National Nurse's Day which works out perfect!

I need some ideas for a gift for our WONDERFUL clinical instructor as it's our last semester with her. Any good suggestions? I know she loves chocolate and also is an avid gardener! Thanks so much in advance!

That is great what some of you have done. I don't know if I will ever chip in on something again. I am not in NS until August, but I wanted to do something for my A and P teacher because he was about the best professor I have ever had. The kind you wish you could take to all your classes as your teacher. I wanted to show my appreciation and plan something great for him. Our last day of class after Finals we were having a pot luck, so I decided to get him a Ice Cream cake and a GC to a local restaurant for him and his wife, he had talked about wanting to try it but they were to expensive. So when word got out what I was planning everyone said they wanted in on the action and they would chip in. So instead of getting a 50 dollar GC like I planned I got a 75 dollar one (most entree's were in the 30 dollar range), I got the cake which was about 30 dollars for the Half Sheet Ice cream cake at DQ and a card, so everyone wanted to pass around the card before class and before he got there and told me they would chip in after class.

So everyone signed the card, we gave him the gift and like 3 people actually chipped in. a few bucks each, I think I collected like 10 bucks and a handful of change :stone

Seriously I was ******, I was going to get him the stuff anyway, not as much but was going to do it, but everyone got credit for it by signing the card and then bailed. Totally messed up.

So nope, I am selfish from now on if I do anything LOL.

Anyway, I have got some great idea now though if I have a good nursing teacher.

Why would you ever buy something before they chipped in?!?! Don't ever do that! We always collect the money first then someone buys it and brings it in. Never ever ever buy something first again...it will just bite you in the butt! (Cause as you said just way to many people back out if not :angryfire)

Last semester for my clinical instructor we bought him 2 bottles of wine. This semester we bought our instructor a really super pretty hanging flower basket and a picture frame that says "my first junior clinical group" that I made.

It was a lesson learned, I was going to buy it anyway but I got a bigger amount on the GC because of them saying they would chip in. I will just always get something more personal by myself though next time.

We bought our A&P teacher a mug because he's constantly drinking water or coffee during lecture. And then as a joke we blew up a Frank Netter picture of the male genitalia and put it in a frame for him. He was always saying he wanted a framed Frank Netter painting. Probably not what he had in mind but it was funny nonetheless.

We took a group picture and had it printed with "Thanks!" on the photo, then framed it. It was really personal without being mushy and much appreciated.

And we gave each of our instructors a gift card (perhaps to a neat garden store for the OP's instructor?)

Our clinical instructor was great! She is very tiny and has trouble finding things small enough. There was this place that makes custom made scrub tops, jackets and pants to match. We chipped in to get her a gift certificate. But there is always a few sour apples in every crowd. One student said she would give me the money later -- she avoided me everytime I saw her after that. Then one just refused to chip in with no reason. She told someone later that the instuctor made more money than all of us put together. And that was the student that took ALL of the instructor's time!!

But definitely don't buy anything BEFORE you get the money if you can't afford the whole thing yourself. People are funny!

A Nurse Christmas ornament or name tag for her stethescope.

i had suggested we all make something for the professors

anything from noodle necklaces to something thoughtful and from the heart

and of course no one listened. so the professors arent getting anything.

Boooo.

We had 10 in our group this semester and we pitched in $8.00 each and I went to the local engraver and had a plaque made that had her name and title, Spring 2009, a sentence about being a great clinical intructor, and our names...She loved it and has it on her office wall. It is more personal than a GC.
