Getting in shape/Losing weight in pre-nursing/NS support thread

Published

Although, It says for students Everyone is welcome.

A few years ago I lost a significant amount of weight and increased my health by walking/running. I was involved with a support thread on another board. We shared our stats each week, our ups, and our downs. It was so helpful for me to be accountable for my actiions and numbers. Well, I was doing good, but had a surprise pregnancy now he is 2, and I am back where I was and then some.

With the unique considerations that come from fitting excercise and a healthy diet in during NS/and pre- reqs, I thought it might be nice to be able to share and support each other because we know better than anyone else the stress of time management and pressure of keeping our grades up.

I know that NS can be strenuous physically and I want to get in shape or at least a head start for this fall

Would anyone else like to join me?

Hi there:

I am responding to your post. In it, you mentioned a decrease in posters to this wt-loss thread.

So, I wonder: is there still a wt loss group here?

I wrote to this group as a whole because 99% of my pms have not been answered for a long period of time. And, the odd thing was that all pms seemed to have stopped at the same time. And, there have been no responses on the wt loss stats that I had normally received. I was told that it wasn't a problem with my computer.

So, I reached out to "the group here as a whole" yesterday to ask what other's experiences have been on this same matter.

`And also, to learn whether such a wt-loss group still exists, esp. since it sounds like very few people check in and most people "do their own thing."

So, I ask again: does a wt loss group still exist here?

And, is there a moderator who is still accepting wt loss stats?

Here's a link to one of the longest-running threads on the Allnurses board, everyone is welcome, always gets lots of responses on a daily basis. It's not a weight loss thread per se, but encourages good healthy food choices that can result in weight loss: https://allnurses.com/forums/f240/healthier-living-thread-part-v-253622.html

Again, a member did start the thread that you mentioned, and I'm sure that if you haven't had any recent PM's, it's nothing personal. Feel free to post and read the many other valuable threads on the forums and of course, if you need any help you can always PM any of the Mods or submit a post to the Admin Help Desk: https://allnurses.com/forums/f128/

I apologize for not being better about posting to this group.

Trina, I'd like to welcome you. Unfortunately the group my self included hasn't been very chatty. Maybe we could get started again.

I fell off the wagon and have not done very well this summer. The September 1st goal date is almost here and I have only lost about 10 lbs instead of the 30 that I wanted to.

That's better than nothing I guess. LOL!

I am having my gall bladder out on the 16th. Probably proof of my horrible eating habits.

I'm going to keep trying, although school starting tomorrow will make it difficult. My life (like everyone else I'm sure) is super busy. With work, kids, hubby and school I'm going to commit to just trying to do the best I can, and accept that maybe It will have to take itty-bitty baby steps to change my life for the healthier.

How is everyone else?

Wow, I can't believe the summer is gone already. Nursing school starts tomorrow!!! I can't believe it. Wish, good luck with your surgery!!

Let's see, I did about 15lbs so I'll take what I can get. I say we all redo our pledges and try for a new goal by the end of the semester in December. Any takers?

I know life gets really hectic for me right now also but I am going to try my best to stick to a healthy life style because it's hard enough dealing with family life and school also so good luck to everybody on their first day of school and everybody be strong!!!:wink2:

yeah i have definately not been dieting.....we have been in school now for 3 weeks and i don't know how i havent lost any because im always studyin i eat breakfast at like 5 am and then dont eat again until 1 or 2 and not really hungry at supper because i had a late lunch but maybe it will catch up with me soon.... i would really like to lose at least 20 lbs by christmas...i would like to lose alot more by then but that is reasonable and you can always set more goals

so im starting tomorrow....i definately need to be drinkin lots more water

I've joined a local gym and have been working out 1- 1.5 hrs 4-5 x per week for about 3 weeks. So far I may have lost 1 lb.

Very frusterating. Anyway, hopefully if a tweek my diet a bit I'll start losing. Working out does make me feel alot better though.

Hey y'all is this thread still active? Just wondering cuz I'd like to join if it is!

I also would love to read this entire thread and use some of you guys techniques to get into shape before I start NS this Summer!

Thank you for starting this thread

I am waiting for my finger print card (submitted in October) and hoping to start my CNA program in Jan.

(no finger print card...no program...it is a pre-req)

I am "swallowing" my stress...and gaining...wanting to lose before school starts. Support would be very helpful

Wow, I haven't posted here in a while. Good luck to all of you. My whole 'lose weight' thing was tough to keep up with this first semester but I did manage to loose 4lbs. I'm hoping that my schedule will be a little easier to keep up a work out routine. I'll try to keep you all posted. Good luck to everyone!
