Although, It says for students Everyone is welcome.
A few years ago I lost a significant amount of weight and increased my health by walking/running. I was involved with a support thread on another board. We shared our stats each week, our ups, and our downs. It was so helpful for me to be accountable for my actiions and numbers. Well, I was doing good, but had a surprise pregnancy now he is 2, and I am back where I was and then some.
With the unique considerations that come from fitting excercise and a healthy diet in during NS/and pre- reqs, I thought it might be nice to be able to share and support each other because we know better than anyone else the stress of time management and pressure of keeping our grades up.
I know that NS can be strenuous physically and I want to get in shape or at least a head start for this fall
Would anyone else like to join me?
I konw someone that was on it. They did not experience any of the side effects from it. But also gained the wt. back once they stopped taking it. I think its not the pill that makes you loose wt. its the fact that you have to adhear to a low fat diet in order to not exhibit the nasty side effects. There was a big write up in our local newspaper about apatrim that I am really thinking about ordering, there is such a high demand for it that they are on back order and even though the stores have ordered it none is available right now. there is a website for it where you can get it at a discount if you order more than one bottle, but I want to try it before I but more than an month supply.
I just found this thread. I, too, am needing to lose weight that I have gained back. I start my nursing classes August 28 and can't wait. I'm finding that losing weight at 42 is not as easy as it was at 20 :) I know what I should be eating and I love healthy foods, but still fight with eating the right way. I would love to chat with you all who are moving towards a healthier life :)
I am a NS due to begin my first semester in August. After having kids my weight gradually increased. I thought since I'll be starting a new chapter in my life, now is as good as ever to try to lose weight. So far I've lost about 25 lbs since May. I stopped eating sugar ( most of the time) white bread and white rice. I guess its kind of a variation on the South Beach Diet. Plenty of veggies, tea, water, protein etc. For exercise I'm walking our crazy puppies, chasing kids around, and doing housework. :nuke:
Hello everyone!
What a wonderful topic! I also have problems with my weight, so two days ago I started very strict diet (cabbage soup diet), because I need to loose 20lbs until September. I start NS in Fall and want to be size 6 by that time. So far it was very hard for me to eat 600 cal per day. I hope I can make it...
Good luck to you guys!
Count me in!
I go to school Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2pm - 8:30 pm.
And work 12 hour weekend shifts (Sat. and Sun.)
I do belong to a gym (Urban Active) and lift weights - at the moment, twice a week. I would like to get back into my old cycling class - but it's too early for me now (6am).
But, I'm a big runner. I run 4 days a week at 25 minute runs.
I usually run every time at around 9:30 am. 'Bout 40 minutes after waking.
And I belong to a running group who runs every Monday.
Wednesdays are my designated rest day. I refer to it as my personal sabbath and I do keep it holy and do not do much physical activity beyond grocery shopping and house work.
When I first started running (and vegetarian) - I went from 223 lbs to about 200 in no time. I'm 6'2", male.
I've now basically remained 170 - 175 ever since and mostly continue just to maintain. And it helps me loads with stress.
I would like to understand why I have been exluded from your weight loss group. Specifically why some people in this group have stopped pm'ing me--even when I have asked them for replies. And, I no longer receive wt loss stats.
At first I thought the sudden lack of replies happened because I wasn't a nursing student. But, that was not by choice....
I could not get into the nursing program, so it wasn't like I choose not to be a nurse. (While I had some misgivings about pursuing nursing, I went ahead but was not able to get into the program.) So, not being able to take that program already felt like one loss. Then after I wrote to others here that I couldn't pursue nursing, 98% of Allnurse's replies stopped. That was the second loss.
Since then, I have communicated with Brian and he told me that whether or not I was a nurse should not influence whether I can post or belong to groups here.
My computer is accepting all input from Allnurses. And, I find it hard to believe that no one is capable of sending pms to me.
So therefore, the only other thing that I can conclude is that I have been excluded. Also, I'm sure that my post will be removed which will further confirm my suspicion.
Im Sorry That You Feel That Way But Im Pretty Sure That No One Is Tryin To Exclude You....i Check Allnurses Everyday And I Have Noticed A Significant Decrease In Postings For The Majority Of My Threads....i Know That I Have Not Posted In This Particular One Because I Have Pretty Much Not Been On My Diet And Was Very Embarrassed About It!! Lol But Im Glad To Say That I Have Started Back And Im Doin Great! But I Mean If No One Replies To Me I Dont Take It Personal I Mean Its Summer Time...ppl Are Crazy Busy, Kids Are Out Of School, Ppl Are Vacationing, Etc....
me too, I don't think anyone is personally trying to exclude you, at least I would hope not. Pretty much everyone here is easy going. I've noticed a decline in postings too but I have to agree. I think it's just summer time and everyone has been super busy getting ready for fall. Personally speaking I kind of fell off the wagon so I've been tight liped. We are all here to support each other. :redpinkhe

I do not think you were being left out or excluded. If you look at the dates from previous posts you will see that there was a big decrease in activity for the whole thread. I like another poster stated have not been following my diet so have not posted on here in nearly a month or so. I will answer any pm's that are sent to me. I may take a few hours but I will answer.

Hi there:
I am responding to your post. In it, you mentioned a decrease in posters to this wt-loss thread.
So, I wonder: is there still a wt loss group here?
I wrote to this group as a whole because 99% of my pms have not been answered for a long period of time. And, the odd thing was that all pms seemed to have stopped at the same time. And, there have been no responses on the wt loss stats that I had normally received. I was told that it wasn't a problem with my computer.
So, I reached out to "the group here as a whole" yesterday to ask what other's experiences have been on this same matter.
`And also, to learn whether such a wt-loss group still exists, esp. since it sounds like very few people check in and most people "do their own thing."
So, I ask again: does a wt loss group still exist here?
And, is there a moderator who is still accepting wt loss stats?

This specific topic was started by registered memebers, there was not really a moderator that was accepting the stats it was a memeber. And I have not seen them logged on in quite a while. As far as a current wt loss group there are several threads here that are currently active https://allnurses.com/forums/f240/. If you want we could buddy up and send our stats to each other. Once again I am sorry that you feel that you have been left out or excluded.
