Although, It says for students Everyone is welcome.
A few years ago I lost a significant amount of weight and increased my health by walking/running. I was involved with a support thread on another board. We shared our stats each week, our ups, and our downs. It was so helpful for me to be accountable for my actiions and numbers. Well, I was doing good, but had a surprise pregnancy now he is 2, and I am back where I was and then some.
With the unique considerations that come from fitting excercise and a healthy diet in during NS/and pre- reqs, I thought it might be nice to be able to share and support each other because we know better than anyone else the stress of time management and pressure of keeping our grades up.
I know that NS can be strenuous physically and I want to get in shape or at least a head start for this fall
Would anyone else like to join me?
I am so happy I found this thread! I was trying to get into shape before starting CNA classes and for 6 glorious weeks I was doing great. I was eating well for the most part and working out at home with exercise DVD's 5 days a week. At least 30 min cardio each day and a couple days of strength training too. Then I started classes and had no time to work out (I also work full time) and of course when you're on the run junk food is just easier and so much more satisfying when you're stressed. Needless to say I'm back up to 186lbs (just too much for a 5'4" frame)
Soon I will be done (6/12/08 is my official last day of class) and I'm eager to get back to it. I plan on taking my measurements and I'll start reporting them here. It definately helps to be held accountable. I very much look forward to joining all of you in your trials and success.
So from what I gather we have 13 weeks???
2 lbs is great :) think of what 2lbs of hamburger looks like Great job and keep it up
Thanks jace7m3
Today I went to the grocery store and weighed some bananas.
I was trying to get an idea of how heavy two lbs actually felt. And, I was shocked to learn that 2 lbs was 4 very heavy bananas.
I'm hoping that now that I felt what the lbs actually feel like in my hands, that it will solidify my motivation to lose all the weight I need to lose. And, hopefully, this "tangible" realization will continue to motivate myself and others to reach their goals.

Hello there!
I'm totally on board with you!
I have gained a significant amount of weight since the fall of last year...mostly due to stress from my former job and overall dissatisfaction with my previous work. I used to work as a fitness director too! For me, spending hours in a fitness center for WORK and not WORKING OUT became too much...the job was very stressful as I had a very specific type of clientele - wealthy, very critical of one's skills/abilities/looks/status, and somewhat not pleasant due to their own lives. Plus, being in charge meant putting up with not only my clientele, but a work staff that would be very unreliable at times...I decided to change careers as my love for helping people with their health grew and my love for my own health and fitness declined with always being in the gym for work and not workouts. I looked for other jobs in that field, but found it to be mostly part time, personal training, and commission based sales jobs...So, I quit in March and set out to become a nurse - something I wanted to do, but finally got the courage to set out and DO IT!
I begin my BSN program at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh in late August and I will have my 4 years done in 3 as I have transferred most of my electives from my previous degree and I will be doing some summer school to get done sooner. I got accepted to 2 other ADN programs that were just over 2 years with schooling non-stop but for a few more months, I've chosen to get my Bachelor's!
However, I want to get into good shape again...I feel better, feel more confident, I'm more productive, focused and I seem to be a lot more optimistic - so that is a goal of mine actually beginning today - June 16th.
I saw your thread and had to say that I'm here with you and others in this thread to help motivate, support, and encourage one another.
My plan is a walk/run program as well as hitting the gym for swimming and lifting once mine gets built (july 18th)
I'd like to be back in the 120s again...I'm at 166 today - YIKES! But I'm sure in a few months I can get there.
This change into nursing is a new start for me and I also want a new start on my own health as well.
LET'S DO IT!

Welcome Carib
Hey, were is everyone?? How are summer classes going? I've been working two jobs (and anyone say 'slit my throat') anyway it should all pay off in the end or some crap like that, right? Last week, I gained a pound. This week, I lost that pound plus two more so I think that puts me at a total of 11lbs so far. I haven't been doing any workouts. My workout is my second job. I work in dietary at a nursing home. Not fun. Anyway, I hope everyone is doing alright and getting ready for fall. Talk to you soon. :redpinkhe
Hi all,
My hats are off to all of you who can attend nursing school and lose weight.
I weighed 135 lbs 4 years ago when i statrted taking my pre-reqs for NS. I just graduated with an ADN in May and weighed 171 lbs.
I have lost 4 lbs since graduating.
My biggest advice is not to eat when stressed. The stress of school is huge. Food was my coping mechanism. This was not good but a person has to do what they can to make it through.
Good luck to all the new nursing students. Hang on tight and be prepared for a wild ride.
Hola chicas, where has everyone been? I hope all of you have had an awesome summer so far. For those of you taking classes, I hope they are going great and for those of you that are starting NS in the fall, I hope you're not driving yourself crazy yet. Speaking of which, I ordered my stethoscope this week, hurray!!
So, how has everyone been doing weight wise? I've been so so. I'll gain a pound or two then lost two or three. It's frustrating. I'm not even sure how I'm doing on my goal? I think I wanted to be 250lbs by September, well we'll see. I'm trying to look at the big picture. This time last year I was close to 323, right now I'm 262. I know some people wouldn't be happy with that but hey, you have to take what you can get, right? (as I shove a piece of cheesecake in my mouth, hey it's that time of the month) Anyway, I hope you all are alright and things are going your way. Take care. :redpinkhe

I found a not so bad for me treat that hits the spot most of the time. I use low fat frozen yogurt vanilla or no sugar added vanilla ice cream usual about 1 scoop and then I pour either diet cherry vanilla dr.pepper or the new diet chocolate cherry dr. pepper. It makes a really good float and and about 130 cals..
Though I have been bad this week to. Just can't get the motivation for exersice or the will power to eat right.
