i can't get a job...

hello...i just recently passed my nclex-rn and getting really stressed looking for a job... i've been looking for a job even before i passed the nclex but i kept getting rejected.... the only experience i have is through nursing school and i have no hospital experience prior to entering nursing school.. could that be the reason i'm not hired?? i'm just getting really frustrated and don't know what path to take right now.. anyone have any suggestions?? what should i do to get an interview??

It is the end of October and I still do not have a nursing postions. The majoirty of the postions were filled in June and they will be hiring again in Jan. I can't tell you how many resumes I have sent out. It is extremely frustrating to read the paper everyday and see over a 1000 postions yet I don't have one.

Which state and city are you in?

What type of program are you looking for?

Have you tried checking out the postings on this forum for jobs? Have you submitted your resume there?

I find it quite odd that you haven't been offered something, unless you are trying for a specific new grad program...........I will be happy to look over your resume if you wish to send me a copy.

Unless you live in Minnesota or Oregon, you shouldn't have too much trouble.

Even though the shortage is easing just a bit 'cause of the skyrocketing enrollment in nursing programs, don't worry. Those number are leveling off 'cause few programs have the money or the professors to increase their enrollment. Anyway, so many older nurses will be retiring and there will be so many new nursing positions opening because of the aging population that nursing schools will never catch up.

Hospitals in my area are no longer experiencing a shortage, HOWEVER, they still have quite a few nursing positions open...why? Their definition of a shortage is a vacancy of 7-10% of nursing positions. So now there is only a vacancy of about 2% and it looks like it will stay that way. So remember, just because an area doesn't have a "shortage" doesn't mean that there aren't any jobs available. ...something to think about.

syhone2005 Don't where you live but if anywhere in WV I can hook you up with at least six places needing RN's and four looking for LPN's. I work for three different hospitals as a RN. And we can sureuse the help in all three. About half of one place I work is new grads with no experience.:rolleyes:

JGHmaleRN, i finally have a job on telemetry unit... i'm on my orientation right now.. i got lucky and got the job... i noticed a lot of hospitals are not really hiring as much for new grads right now since they hired a lot of new nurses in may... fortunately, i found one...

thank you so much for those positive words. I am going to start looking around april/march and be very persistent. Plus network as much as possible. I may be moving out of my area though.

Not yet a nurse (I'll graduate in December 2006) but I have already secured a job at a hospital here locally. I earned a scholarship from them in exchange for an 18 month commitment. Not a bad exchange for one of America's top 100 hospitals. I love the place as well.

Can you get a letter of recommendation from an instructor? I agree that the nurse recruiter in HR is your best bet.
