Generic name for vitals machine?

Published

Does anyone know of a simple generic name for the vitals machines that roll around? We've been talking about different terms like the "COW" and I was curious if this device had a nickname like "computer on wheels"?

Dynamaps. Or just vitals machines.

yep dynamap, or portable vs machine.

We also use Dynamaps.

Nurse on a Stick

LOL! When I was doing clinicals, we were told to NEVER refer to it as the COW again! Apparently, someone was overheard by a patient saying something like "the COW in room 214.." and there was a bit of a problem. :-)

Usually we just call them vital signs machines or... "dynamap" for those people that are used to calling them that. We don't call them "monitors" because that brings an entirely different cart... ;)

What's wrong with "vitals machine" being the generic name for the vitals machine? That's what we always called them where I have worked.

Definitely Dynamap...I haven't heard them called anything else.
