    NELRP 2014

It looks like the application cycle is also open for those looking to sign on for the third year. I'm in the same boat as above, I started tucking the excess payment away with the intention of making a lump sum payoff of one of my loans. I tried the monthly route for about 10 months, but found that I wasn't getting very far with principal reduction. Anybody else have this problem? I don't want to make a large payment just yet. I'm willing only depending on how strict this continuation contract business is. Any insight?

    Ambulatory Care Nurse Certification?

Wow. Thanks. Looks like I might buy the book but skip the course. A few runs through some sample tests and hopefully I'll be all set.

    Ambulatory Care Nurse Certification?

Me either. Never seen in a job posting. I'll look into CDE as well. Thank you for your insight.

    Ambulatory Care Nurse Certification?

Thanks for your response. FQHC is Federally Qualified Health Center. I took a look at the cost. Prep materials alone are pretty hefty in cost. At this point, my organization hasn't factored the cert in the pay scale but I'm hoping it may influence future raise negotiations. A lot to think about.
  5. I'm interested on feedback on this certification. I'll be coming up on 2 years as an RN in a FQHC and I've been wondering if obtaining this certification would be worth my while. Ambulatory nurses, what are your thoughts on this? If not the ambulatory care cert, What are the certifications that you have found contribute greatest to advancement and marketability?

NELRP 2013 - Who else applied?

Has anyone contacted HRSA since federal operations resumed? I'm interested in finding out if all decisions have been rendered, and what the timeline is for processing the October payments for folks who were granted the award. (I don't want to contribute to their customer service being inundated with calls if someone has already gotten the low-down) ART

NELRP 2013 - Who else applied?

In a nutshell, each year the House and Senate must vote on the upcoming fiscal year's budget. Should they not agree by fiscal year's end (sep 30), they will go into a (possibly lengthy) round of discussions. During that time, however, the government technically will not have an approved budget and therefore must " shutdown". No one is authorized to be paid, so no one is working. From what I understand, the employees that process our HRSA grant payments are among those who won't be working (federal employees) So, we may experience a delay in receiving payments. This is what they were informing us in the email. I do not believe that the HRSA grant funding is one if the major issues on the table right now, although it is technically up for vote. Most of the stink this year is over the Affordable Care Act funding, so I do not believe the program itself is in danger. The participants, however, will be affected by the shutdown if it happens. Let's all pray they get it done in the next 48 hrs! It's my understanding that the October payments are often delayed anyway due to the transition into a new fiscal year. ART

@micahbgibbs - congrats on receiving the award! To me, your plan seems solid. I received my second payment on the 21st and I have a similar strategy. The only difference is that I am focusing on paying the higher interest rate loans first, while paying the minimum on the others. Most of my loans are private. I'm hoping this will give me more bang for the buck over the life of the program. To those still waiting on decisions: sending many prayers your way! ART

NELRP 2013 - Who else applied?

@ LOVE2SPA: Thanks! I'm an RN, currently working at a Community Health Center (Facility score 18) I must admit, I have not calculated or taken note of my DTI ratio, however it far exceeds 100% (apparent when there's nothing left over at the end of the month but more bills!) I do understand how nerve wracking the wait can be. I'd planned on calling to check on my first payment at the end of this month, but it arrived ahead of schedule. My thoughts and prayers are with you that you hear something soon! ART

This might be helpful for some: I received the banking info email on 6/12/13 with a 6/19 deadline. I got the acceptance email on 7/8 and I just received my first payment yesterday. I was told by customer service that the first payment could take up to 90 days to be deposited, but it did not. Also that folks would be informed of decisions through October. Sending prayers! ART_RN
