I wouldn't mind doing med/surg for a while after I get through w/ADN. I need to relocate and the sign on bonuses double in a lot of hospitals for med/surg. As soon as I graduate I will start on my BSN and then get my masters in addiction studies. All I want to do is addiction and recovery nursing.

I have always thought I wanted to work in L&D. But now I am thinking about cardiology, because I am so fascinated with it. But I can "see" myself doing L&D, but I can't "see" myself doing cardiology. Maybe because I have personally experienced L&D as a patient. I dunno. But I'm sure I will change my mind about 40 times before I finish clinicals!

I want to work in NICU. Dallas has numerous hospitals with level II and III NICU's, so I am hopeful I can get a job with one when I graduate.

My aunt is a nurse practitioner and she said to avoid Med/Surg. She said the conditions are so bad that many new nurses burn out quickly and leave the profession. She said you are better off in an area where the nurse/patient ratio is more controlled.

ICU here.....specifically SICU or CVICU. I am wanting to do ICU to complete the necessary time to gain entry to CRNA school.

I hope to get into LTC. I want especially to help the elderly. Especially the veterans of wars. I have such a passion for them. I just want them to feel like somebody cares about them and that they are not alone in their golden years.

I'm thinking about going into psych, but who knows. i guess it's still to early in the game to get my mind set on one thing.

maybe i'll go on to be a psyNP one day or even a psychiatrist....it would take alot of convincing to get my husband to let me do that tho

What are your future goals in Nursing?

i will have my ADN in a couple of weeks. next spring i will start an online program to finish my BSN. my plans after that are to finish my masters in acute trauma NP but one thing at a time.

Also how do you feel when you hear some nurses say all nurses should start out in Med-Surg?

i feel as if that person has a right to their opinions. i do believe that med/surg is the route for some people that may feel they need it. however, i feel as if going straight to the ER is the right thing for me to do.

    LDRP first and foremost!

I haven't started clinicals yet (next month) but I entered nursing school with such a love of my labor and birth experience. I want other women to have the wonderful/not so wonderful experiences that I had. I have 3 children and 3 dramatically different birth experiences.

If I can help a woman have a positive labor/pp experience I'll be happy.

Going into nursing... I start clinicals in the fall... I am leaning towards either psych or corrections. I don't know why 'corrections', but it does interest me. I will be working this summer as an english tutor in a women's correctional facility and am excited about that. Our son is autistic/bipolar and I have much psych knowledge thanks to him. I'd like to share it... I think I understand how parents feel when they have a child with those issues.

Definitely critical care or ER. I find the complexity and excitement very appealing. Long term I'm also thinking about CRNA which requires at least a year of adult critical care experience.

I am headed to the Operating Room when I finish my BSN in Spring '05. There is a perioperative internship at Hershey with my name on it.
