I'm a nervous wreck

I take my nursing final on Monday the 12th and I am a nervous wreck. I keep thinking, "what if I fail?" I have worked so very very hard this semester and would be absolutely crushed if I mess up the final. I can't seem to do anything to calm my nerves. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can just relax and do my best?!!!

 Tonya

Just Breathe!...Relax...and evision yourself passing your test. Calmly reflect on how hard you've worked and you'll see that you can pass this test. You've just got the jitters hun...

Take a few minutes away from studying to relax youself and forget all about your classes. I know this is hard but find a way to divert your attention for a little while so you can be refreshed and re-focus later. I'm sure you'll do fine! Let us know how it goes! :)

One thing my class does is try to laugh about something right before the test. Reason being, we had a guest speaker on test anxiety who was a pyschiatrist and was wonderful! She said laughter lowers your BP, anxiety levels, etc..

Sometimes the majority of the students are too uptight so I have a group of friends that we make it a requirement to laugh right before we test. Laughter is the best medicine to calm your nerves, in my opinion. :)

Also, just study every day a little at a time (don't cram), many intervals throughout the day focusing on the things you're not sure about. Build your confidence through "over-knowledge" on a subject. And get a good night's rest before the exam! Oh, and eat breakfast too! Helps those brain cells work! ;)

Good luck! I bet you'll do fine! I was pretty scared for my first nursing final and we laughed before she handed out the test. Our group of friends scored the highest on the test! So there's something to the theory! :chuckle

I have to tell you this story. I was struggling in Pharm, not really struggling but not getting the grade that I wanted.

Ok, 2 hours before the final and I estimated how many questions I needed to get wrong before I lowered my grade, raised my grade or kept it where it was.

Dh had the idea to "play" around.

Needless to say, I got an A on my looooooooooooooong final, raised my grade and breezed through the test.

Never underestimate the power of SEX!

AMEN!!!!!!!!

something about releasing endorphins and stress. It really does help!

That is if you can relax enough to even imagine doing that at a time like this......

I usually can't but I know it works at other times! (LOL)

If not, a warm bath and deep breathing exercies might help.

Great advice JavaMom---laughter truly is the best medicine!

How about a long bath and a facial... maybe paint your toenails... get an hour or so of "you" time to relax...!!! :)

Good luck on your final!!! :) :)

I totally can understand your nervousness. But you have written something that stands out..."I have worked so very hard this semester"...because you didn't wait until the last moment, I think you will do just fine.

I felt the same way about A&P1 (I'm not yet in the RN program). All along I have been doing great on all of my tests, with extra-credit, I have not gotten less than a 101. Well, that didn't mean I wasn't nervous about the Final which was worth 200 points. I would try to figure out how much could I miss and still get my A. I would dream about struggling through the final. Well, when I checked my grade which my prof posts by the end of the day, I cleared 216!!! I was confused because the highest I could make was a 210 (10 for the xtra credit assignment). He told me that he curved it (the average was still only a D for the entire class) and that without it, I would have gotten a 196/200 and as he stated "you still would've kicked everyone's butt." that felt great! yes, I'm tooting my horn....but I've worked extremely hard all through the year, and while I haven't gotten all my prereqs done, this might increase my chances of my acceptance this fall or at least be a high alternate.

So, the point I'm trying to get across is that if you've worked hard all along, you will not fail. Good luck!

You will do fine. I had a 78 going into finals, we have to have a 78 to pass the class. I needed to make a 78 on the final I made an 89. One other problem after passing the class is you have to make a 85 on the hesi to move on to the next nursing class.

Hi Tonya!!!

I don't know if you have taken your final yet but I wanted to let you know good thoughts are going your way from me!

Relax a bit and break it all down into small, manageable pieces.

You will do fine!
