I wonder what business is it of the hospital's how many people you can rely on in an emergency? I've seen this question on applications before and didn't appreciate it much.

Is this not kind of an impossible number to guess? What if your brother is the most reliable person in the world but happens to be in another country during the emergency? What if your mother has always been your partner in crime, but she's on bedrest during the emergency? You get the picture.

I look at it as, if there is an emergency, can we count on you to be able to come in? Child care or pet care or whatever, can you get it covered and be available to us? Disaster time, we need you, don't tell us you can't come because there is no one else to watch your (fill in the blank).

Thanks Cricket and Jbudd, this really helped. Now I'm between the third and fourth option. I see how zero doesn't make sense. I can see how 11+ doesn't make sense.

It's part of a personality inventory, though. I did one recently and had that same question. I answered 3-4
