This week, I have learned:

(Vacation edition!)

1. Absolutely nothing specifically related to nursing

2. It's hard to not judge unhealthy habits of people on vacation

3. I'm reaching a point in my nursing practice where I can frequently size up a person for their health issues

4. It sucks being handicapped with an unseen condition at an amusement park

5. I am NOT afraid to write a scathing hot review of a terrible hotel

6. Simply being within viewing distance of my kids' joy is the best part of a vacation, ever

7. If you have the option of "quick queue" at an amusement park when it's 100 degrees outside, just do it

8. If you touch me when it's this hot outside, I will want to punch you in the face (reread that with the properly deserved expletives)

9. I have a new favorite motto

That's all from me! What have you learned this week?

Specializes in OR, Nursing Professional Development.

I've learned that I really need to get one of those "If people could read my mind" plaques. Or better yet, get it on a t-shirt.

I've also learned that sometimes you have to pick your battles with coworkers and just live with the consequences of letting something go.

Specializes in Emergency and Critical Care.

1. I learned that I can get a lot more work done, after my students have been pinned and before the next cohort (yes I said cohort :)) starts.

2. I Love watching my students complete their LPN school and be pinned.

3. I Love getting calls from employers asking for references

4. After 35 years at the bedside, I am very happy to be a director of LPN/CNA programs and being able to help people towards their dream

5. You are never to old to change focus, earned my MSN/Ed at the age of 50+

6. Reading AN helps me improve our programs and help teach adult learners with respect and compassion

7. We added chaos theory into our simulation scenarios for more realistic learning and the students love it

8. Had feedback from a DON of a LTC facility that hired 2 of my last year students and she said she did not have to spend a great deal of time teaching them their lab values, they new them. This made me feel awesome

9. 2 of my clinical instructors I hired are ER nurses I worked with, and are awesome with the PN students

10. I Love being able to hire people I have worked with, that I know really care about teaching, love the students and are willing to go the extra mile.

I have so many other things but I will wait and add more as I go, since this is my first posting on this thread. I read the previous posts, and thank you all for the boost

I learned that ixchel is a lightweight...:whistling:

I love your #6, ixchel. I learned that long ago.

I learned just because I'm physically strong does not mean I'm physically fit.

I've learned I love my friends.

I've learned that just because I'm emotionally strong does not mean I'm emotionally fit.

I've learned that watching my mom and my son interact brings me joy.

I've learned that old men will always want a young(er) nurse to wash them.

I've learned I don't miss sweets.

I learned that recovering from surgery is a lot harder than I thought.

I have some fabulous coworkers. They still fuss at me if they think I am over doing things and jeopardizing my recovery.

Anything can be considered sexual or sexist. Even if it's just a conversation about a toilet seat.

Having the house to myself is a thing of beauty.

I REALLY need a vacation.

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

I learned that

-leaving a baby's bottom open to air in the PICU causes all sorts of comments from coworkers- but also heals diaper rash rather quickly and nicely, thus justifying the intervention.

-when you take time off they really DO miss you

-my daughter was the cutest 5 foot tall Jedi Master at GenCon

Or M&M's. *cues Van Halen's "Ice Cream Man"*

1) Sometimes 1mg of Haldol just isn't enough

2) Locking your knees while starting an IV can make you pass out at the bedside

3) Always believe a person when they tell you who they are the first time they tell you

4) Cliff bars go really good with coffee

5) We sometimes have more in common with our patients than we think (this week I had a riveting conversation about Big Brother with my patient)

Specializes in Hospital medicine; NP precepting; staff education.

I learned that I'm growing weary of people joking about domestic violence when I do my safety screening and ask if they feel threatened by persons or circumstances.

Specializes in critical care.
I learned that ixchel is a lightweight...:whistling:

OMG we went to a Mexican restaurant two or three nights ago and they brought me a margarita that was no joke bigger than my head. If you basically never drink, don't ask for a large.

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

1) My son grew up waaaay too fast. :( He's walking & I miss my baby!

2) Contrave makes my husband a sleeping, hibernating bear. Boo.
