I was circulating a procedure in the OR today, the patient was draped, and I was waiting for the scrub to hand off the bovie and the suction, got that plugged in. The surgeon was marking the incision site. He had been wearing a headlight all day, and sometimes I forget to plug it in, and they must remind me. When they wear the headlights, they tuck the cord into their back pocket and I just reach under their gown to get the cord and plug it in.

So my third case is starting with the above scenario in place. I was determined NOT to forget to plug in the headlight. I reached up under the surgeon's gown and patted the pocket to find the cord...can't find it. The surgeon stops what he is doing and asks me over his shoulder, "Am I missing something?" I said, "Um...YEAH (all sarcastic like), I am trying to plug in your cord!" He stifles a laugh and says, "Dude, I am NOT WEARING A HEADLIGHT, but thanks for the pat down!"

Oh my goodness. I wanted to disappear into the floor.

LOL!!! Thanks for the chuckle. It's a great visual. I am sure that this incident will follow you for a while if your co-workers are anything like mine they will give you a nickname like "sneaky fingers" and tape Sexual Harrassment training brochures to your locker.

He did comment that he was more awake now...

That's pretty funny. Was he at least good-looking?

I've had situations in deliveries where the OB is gowned and gloved up and about to catch a baby, and his phone goes off (which is clipped on the waistband of his pants, underneath the gown). I've had to kneel in front of the OB and reach underneath the bottom of his gown, and feel around the front of his scrub pants to grab his phone. Certainly looks like a compromising position!

Ya'll are hilarious! Made me remember the time I was working with a neonatologist to rescusitate a premie and her pants fell down. All the way down so her hiney was hanging out. She was in the middle of establishing an umbilical line so I had to reach down and grab the pants. Couldn't get them back up over her 9 months pregnant belly and ended up safety pinning the bottom to the top. Thankfully,no parents were around or they would have gotten an eyeful.

Watch now for the headlight to be worn backwards. :D

I did have a surgeon tell me that his beeper was going off and that it was in his FRONT pocket! I said, "Oh yeah? Then I guess I will pull a new gown and gloves for you, cause your ass is dropping scrub!"

I had to dig in a doc's front pocket one time during a dressing change for a pager.

When I pulled it out, I raised my eyebrows and said "Oh. I thought it'd be....bigger." The doc and patient about died laughing.
