Nursing Week B.S.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

So anyway, I attended a staff council meeting where we discussed plans for Nursing Week which is coming up in May. So basically it was said that unless we nurses are willing plan and organize the event, nothing will be done this year. Oh yeah and they're trying to make the event include all "nursing staff" (housekeeping, aides, clerical staff). Is it just me (being, gasp, eletist) or is there something wrong with this?

Gee...uh...couldn't begin to say!

What? Since when did the housekeepers, clerical, aides, etc have to sit for nursing boards!!!??? Hello, I guess that means your not a freakin' nurse! I think that the mere suggestion is offensive.

Just a "little" irritated,

We have Hospital Week not long after nurses week that encompasses everyone, throughtout the year there's Phebotomy Week, Radiology Week, Physical Therapy week...on and on and on. We don't feel the need to include non-nursing in NURSES Week. Everyone should be appreciated for the job they do, the this is our week.

On the other hand, I get a paycheck, vacation time, benefits, etc. and I don't feel that nurses week should be a big deal either.

Sounds like your place of employment is just to cheap to do anything to say thanks, because they also have housekeeping, nursing assistant, clerical staff, etc, week. Do the nurses not work hard enough to get their own week? Please.

  :uhoh21: ....Vegas, where is your purse? Or can we use mine?

Aides are included in Nurse's Week at my hospital...but housekeeping??

I agree with 3rd shift guy. Each dept celebrates their own.

Nurses week is a big crock of *hit at my hospital. It ends up being hospital employee week. Then the little trinkets they supposedly have for the "employee's" get given to the visitors!! Although the other departments usually have their own "celebatory" time. Nurses week....whatever. NO ONE except us will tell each other THANKS! YOUR GREAT AND I APPRECIATE YOU!

So to everyone here....(early I know)

THANKS AND I APPRECIATE ALL YOU DO EVERYDAY YOU'RE IN THE TRENCHES!!!!

Unfortunately, I have never seen any nurses week events that did not include the entire staff. Over the past couple of years I haven't worked anywhere that had ANY sort of nurses week events. It usually passes by without my realization that it is nurses week.

EXACTLY!!! Can the crappy calculators and pencils and show that we're appreciated!

At my facility the nurses and aides are the only ones recognized during nurses week and Nursing is the only dept that has a facility wide/sponsored week.....Other depts put on there own recognition programs independantly....However handing out little trinkets never makes up for all the ot worked all the time with family missed and all the administrative bs put up with....

Okay, now I understand that you may be a little "irritated" as it was put, but since when is the nurse aides not considered part of the nursing staff? Thats just a little bit arrogant don't ya think? I am in school myself for my ADN but I will never forget where I started. After all, do you do all your own baths, feeds, turns, diaper changes, vital signs, ect... If so then you are correct, cnas shouldn't be included in your hospital. Otherwise, Yeah they should!!
